Ford Mondeo - Speedometer Problem

I'm hoping someone can give me a little advice before taking the car to a garage.
I've got a 2009 Mondeo Estate. The car has been totally reliable for the three years I've had it until yesterday.
While driving along I noticed that the speedometer was stuck on 20 mph even though I was going faster. I stopped the car and switched the ignition off. Then started it again and drove off and the speedo was working fine. On two other occasions after setting off the same occurred and going through the switch off/on process cured it.
If it's an easy job to repair then I'll do it myself. otherwise it's down to the local Ford independent to see what they suggest.
