Hi,

Looking at a 1.6 Puma and a couple of options so wanted to get some advice

Have seen one model which has had same owner for last 10y, book full of receipts/services/MOTs and only 57k. However, the clutch has a long travel (driven a few) and theres some significant rust at the bottom of the wheelarch and sill.

Anyone any idea of cost impact?

Also, the steering wheel is really worn, more so than another 87k model I've seen. However, the receipts/SH/MOT history all checks out, suggesting mileage is genuine...

Any advice from current/previous owners is appreciated!!

They all suffer from wheelarch rot to some degree, common fault on many Fords of the time. If you're happy with the miles then clutch is a negotiating point, as is the rot. It will cost you probably more than you'll get off as some people wouldn't care on a car barely into a grand and to do a proper job on the bodywork will be near enough the value of the car.

I ran one as an interim a few years ago when I wrote off a MiTo, that cost me about £1,600 and I sold it for £1,400 after 6 months, although I got the cambelt done to be safe. It had been in the same family since new so was about as good as they get. Late 1.6's are a good reliable fun cheap car, not as many potential headaches as the 1.7
