Hi all - gearbox advice required
Discussion
I need to mount a DOHC sierra MT75 box on the back of a 2.8V6 cologne motor....V6 is ex XR4x4 I know I'll need to change the sump etc.....
Can anyone advise of a adaptor plate or conversion kit...
I'm going the MT75 route rather than type 9 route due to the V6 pushing 280bhp and was told the type 9 would destroy itself rather quickly??

www.passionford.com is an excellent Ford site with many modders and traders. Should get a decent answer before the weekend is out...
The sump is dead easy to fit, very simple. But I would look at the interford forums which are much more useful.

The XR4x4 Type 9 and MT75 transmissions are interchangeable on a 2.8, and many people prefer using the 2.8 clywheel, clutch and starter to keep the inertia down.
The issue is going to be whether your transmission is going to have the correct bellhousing and input shaft. You need to check this.
The wierd thing I have seen on the Forum is a lot of people swapping MT75s for Type 9s to get closer ratios.
The following site is worth a look at, he has taken a Sierra XR4x4 to the logical extreme for a road car.

it is the bell housing thats the problem..
V6 MT's in RWD form are pretty rare... 2.0 DOHC are more readily available but bellhousing is one cast piece into the housing....hence the problem...
I've tried passion ford already without succcess..they all seem more interested in how many moonstone sapphire cossies are left on the planet!!
thanks for the extra links will keep trying
