Hi I'm having issues with my 2006 focus St, the car alarm seems to have a mind of its own. I have tried a few methods including deactivating the interior sensors before locking to no avail.

I've tested the battery life which came back at 87% so I'm guessing it's not a drop in voltage, I disconnected the battery and put new batterys in the key fobs.

After I reconnected the battery I get no central locking from the keyfob? And can only lock/unlock the car by inserting the key into the door lock.

I tried to reprogramme the keyfob but have had no luck so have Been locking the car manually , I've also taken out the bonnet catch/sensor and give it a good clean.

This seemed to help as the alarm didn't go off for 1 day ( as far as I know) but has just gone off now for no reason?

It's starting to become a nuisance and I'm sure my neighbours are getting fed up and so am I tbh , I've only had the car 1 week.

What can I do 😤

A diagnostics check should confirm which sensor tripped the alarm for the last few activations, but my money would be on the bonnet sensor - I think these are renowned for failure on Fords.

Perhaps try bypassing / shorting the switch and seeing if the alarm behaves itself ?

How would I do that?

By linking the two wires which go to the bonnet sensor.

If you trace the cable back from the sensor itself, you should find an inline plug & socket - it might be simplest to pull this apart and use a short length of wire to link the pins in the socket. Probably goes without saying, but link the terminals in the connector which runs back to the car, not the one that is connected to the bonnet switch!

No idea - I don't have a Ford Focus.

Does it look like the one you removed ?

The part I removed and cleaned is the one in the picture and it had a plug which goes into it I assume that's the sensor.

That'll be it, then.

Does the socket on the end of the cable allow you to use a wire link to short the terminals together ?

Not saying the bonnet sensor is definitely at fault, but shorting the socket is a cost free way of eliminating one possibly cause..
