Would you buy a 2006 Focus 1.8 tdci with 144k?

I know this is probably something that has been asked by lots of people buto, well. I have my eye on a very high milage ford focus 1.8 tdci with 144k on the clock. Apparently it has had a lots spent on it and has main dealer service history. I only want it for getting to and from jobs, and will probably get rid of it in a year or two.
The question is, would you take a punt on it, and if so, what would you be looking for when making a decision?

If the above is true and the service history is full I'd be happy with it.
FWIW I was looking at the same model back in September. I saw one with 80k and a mate's with the same mileage as the one you saw. He's serviced it himself ; I blame myself for making him do them. He's a bit of a Fred Dibneh these days in other bits!
But my mate's car is sound, the engine has zero knock compared to the lower miler I saw and it is tidier all round ; you would not know that it has done 60k more, it looks like it has done less!
The 80k car had
-scratches all round
-bits of the interior broken
-handled strangly ; it was on budgets all round however whereas my friend has always fitted premium rubber.
The best thing? The bloke with the 80k car sold it for £1700 within a week ; I thought my offer of £1400 was generous for an 06 car!

I have the same model, a '56 plate on 105k. I've looked after it but it's got to the age where the suspension is tired and the clutch/DMF will need doing before long. Each of those jobs is more than the car's value. If you can get it for under £1k and it's been well-maintained with receipts to prove it, I'd say go for it.

That sounds about right. But of course it depends how good the car is in the flesh.Is that about right?

If you want true trouble free motoring I'd get a 1.8 or 2.0 petrol Focus. They are dead reliable and cost peanuts to run. Even the MPG is not too terrible. However they are not what you'd call exactly common.
That or a Saab 9-3 but the Focus is a nicer drive and a little easier to get some 'normal' spares for like a PAS hose etc.

That's what I come to think based on what I have read... I had a mk1 focus 1.6 zetec se lump and it never gave me any bother, I just thought the desiel might be a good bet. Now, after looking at the price of injectors, dual mass flywheels etc I'm thinking no, at that sort of milage I figure I'm just as likely to end up with a lemon as I am not... They are a pretty tough engine compaired to the 1.6, i service a few transit connects with well over 150K, recently did a clutch on one with 185K on the clock and it drives like new but the owner is very deserning about what goes on it, only ford parts if at all possable, personly i'd ignore the millage and concentrait on the condition as is
I currently have a 1.8 tdci mk 2 estate with 154k on it. They are good cars and cheep to run. Managed 75mpg on a 300mile round trip recently, parts are cheep and I have just recently done the dmf and clutch on mine which was a hit to the pocket, whole kit was £440 but changed it my self. Apart from sevice parts and brakes all round when I first got it 2yrs ago thats all she has cost me so far. From what I've read the engines are bullet proof and better than the 1.6 & 2.0 citroen/ peugeot derived engines.

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus. Funnily I'm talking to a fella atm about a 2.0 focus zetec which has 80k With F.S.H.he wants 1,395. it states 50mpg on a run... I was wondering how a 2.0 can be as good as a 1.6 but, I figure it's because you'll not have to review it as high and put ya foot down as hard to get a move on.
