Tragically my Mondeo has failed it's MOT on one of the rear trailing arm bushes, from a google it seems Ford like to replace the whole arm for £££ and my normal garage doesn't have the tool to do it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for anywhere that'll do just the bushes in South Birmingham'ish area? Otherwise it's buy the special tool and do it myself.

I'm in Nottingham so can't help with a local recommendation, but I'm a Ford tech at a dealer and we never replace the arms, just the bushes. Some people hate the job but I don't mind it to be honest, expect to pay an hour's labour per side.

Ah, maybe the local Ford dealer is worth a shout then. I'll give them a ring tomorrow morning.

It is a common thing to have to have done I think on mk4 mondeos

I had both sides rear bushes replaced by a Ford garage including MOT for £270
(front mounted bushes not centrally mounted bushes)

Prices are variable as some garages have the specialist tool to fit them more easily.
This is also available as a DIY tool (e.g. Sealey) though I did not try it.

I have heard of people paying much less than this as well,
I turned down Halfords Autocentre quoting £500

It's over 100k now and coming up to 9 years old. It would be nice if they lasted forever but I can't really grumble.

I considered buying the tool and the parts but it needed doing before the MOT ran out and I have little desire these days to do the more horrible jobs.

I had my 2013 Mondeo service and MOT at my local Surrey Ford dealer in May 2017. They advised "Rear trailing arm bushes starting to perish" for which they quoted £804 (yes, eight hundred and four pounds). Surrey prices! I turned them down. Any suggestions, other than doing the work myself, gratefully received.

Ouch!

Although I left mine for a long time past the "starting to perish" stage as perished doesn't matter. The question really is if they are *moving* (where they shouldn't be).

Any local Volvo dealers?
