So the wife's thinking we may like to change from the GT86 to something a little bigger and the Mustang comes to mind

Anyone have one? for me the V8 is the only way to go. As we don't do huge miles and it's our second car.

So anyone have one? thoughts?

I've loved the 86 for the 3 years we have had it and the only reason to change is the engine and more power with added extra room. How big are the back seats? the 86 is more of a 2X2 so not enjoyable to use the back seats for longer than 30 mins to a hour

I've had a V8 model for a couple of months now. It's my daily driver (indeed, it's my only car) - the mileage isn't disastrous, as I get about 22MPG, which is not a great deal worse than my old Focus ST. As I only do about 7k miles a year, it's not a problem. It's very prone to twitching it's back wheels under hard acceleration (and when cold, regular standing starts at roundabouts etc have to be carefully approached), but nothing uncontrollable - it's hugely enjoyable to drive, and I find the inside of the car a very pleasant place to be. And I don't ever foresee a time when I get tired of the engine's soundtrack.

The bad news from your point of view - the back seats are reported as comfy by the one person who's sat in them,, but she is only 5'1. There is very little legroom, especially if the front seats are quite far back. If you will have regular back seat passengers, I would definitely recommend having a good look at one on a garage forecourt somewhere.

All in all, I have no regrets in buying mine whatsoever, but I have no SO or kids!

They do look good in yellow. I initially ordered mine in ruby red, but due to a long and dull story, I ended up with race red - not a colour I fancied at first, but it's grown on me a lot.

Backseats are useless for anyone but kids under the age of about 13/14.

I've managed 23MPG over the car's 15K miles.

That's all I have left behind mine.

I'm 6' but I don't think I sit miles away from the steering wheel.

It's not just the legroom though as much as it is the headroom. Sat in the back (with seat RIGHT forwards) my head is cranked right over to the side and is still touching the roof where the window is.

I've just come back from a trip to the States and the second time I've hired a 2.3 Mustang. I had the coupe last time and the convertible this time and I'm very tempted to try one when I replace my M135i. It's not nearly as good to drive but there's something endearing about it! I used to love the old Mustangs but I always felt they'd be useless here, however the fuel consumption does bother me a little - I only got 23 mpg in LA without much traffic - my BMW averages 33mpg over here in similar driving...

I've had my Orange V8 for over a year now. Love it. I should sell as money is tight but as soon as I drive it, I realise it will be a very hard thing to do.

Michelin MPSS on the rear have sorted out the twitchy cold tyre PZero problems, and have transformed how the car drives in the wet. Much more confident.

So I've done over 10,000 miles at an average of 21mpg which is a lot better that my last American V8. Does drop to 12mpg in city driving but thankfully I moved out of London before the beast arrived.

Needs a slightly louder exhaust biggrin

I know its not much compensation, but 1 imperial gallon = 1.2 US gallons.

I should have been clearer - the figures I gave were like for like... I'm hoping the car I had this time was a bad example after 20k of hire mileage. Really charming car though, fun even just to potter about in, possibly not ideal for my Shropshire to Heathrow commute though!
