Focus MK 1 2003 1.8 TDCI (100 PS) cold starting issue
Discussion
My workhorse Focus Estate (128K miles) has given me bombproof starting even in very cold weather until now. Battery was replaced with Ford heavy duty one just under 3 years ago and still seems quite strong.
Symptom is that when cold, it now requires starter to be held on for about twice as long as normal. Thereafter it starts perfectly every time even if engine has only run for short time. I tried leaving it for about 8 hours after last running, then tried starting it and bingo, it started with first turn of the key.
I changed the air filter as that was getting a bit dirty but no discernible effect. Could it be fuel filter related, that has not been changed in a while?
