Hoping some of you knowledgeable chaps can help me out.
Current owner of a 55 plate Ford Fiesta Zetec S TDCi with the DLD Duratorq DV6 engine (PSA lump ) which i believe is a HHJB.
I bought the car at 96k almost exactly a year ago and have run it to just shy of 120k as of today with brilliant economy (worst tank i've ever had was 59mpg average - i'm happy with that).
Lately i'm getting increasingly worried about the car. I started noticing that on start up it chucks out a small amount of whitish/blue smoke which smells sweet & Diesely(?) for about 30 seconds then clears and no more fumes. This worried me but i chalked it up to being a combination of Sainsburys diesel and it being bloody cold.
Lately the smoke has definitely got worse, lasting about 60 seconds now and being thicker, more opaque. Combined with a few other symptoms;
- Engine seems to 'rock' at idle on startup
- Engine seems to pull back or hit a dead spot in the rev range on occasion
- AND LASTLY - the last 2 tanks have seen a drop of ~10mpg. May not seem like much but temp and driving habits are near identical.
Doing a bit of research, these engines clearly have their problems, but specific to this we have; EGR gunked up, Injector(s) gunked up, Turbo seals gone.
Basically, anyone had any similar experiences and what was the consequent solution? I've organised to get hold of an OBD diagnostics reader but i understand these can be a bit ambiguous at times.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I've had a few issues with them, usually leaking injector seals on the end of the injector to head, followed by EGR and then onto having to compleatly strip the inlet off and claning the crap out from inside, there is a post on here somewhere, where i posted pics of the issues.

So, grabbed an OBD2 reader and got code P1412-$07E8 which, after some research, appears to be a sticky EGR Valve.
Originally i planned to take this off and clean it but the internet informs me that blanking it off is the definitive answer to solve this problem.
I just wanted to know if blanking is considered a mod and therefore invalidates insurance?
Or if the EML light comes on (which i believe it will do on a MK6.5 as opposed to MK6) is considered an MOT fail? I will most probably keep this car for eternity so the light being on won't bother me one bit but if it fails MOTs i'll fit a plate with a hole in it (ordered one with and one without).
Am i right in assuming that if a blanking plate has a hole in it, it will still allow some st to get through to the inlet? (and as such isn't the optimal fix).
Also, any point in removing and cleaning the EGR if one plans to blank it at the same time?
Thanks

Couple of really critical points on this engine.
1) Make sure those injector seals are good. Bad seals will wreck the engine. (Ask me how I know).
2) EGR can be blanked off, but will throw EML. Blank it and map it.
3) Do frequent oil changes - small sump and overworked oil is a recipe for disaster.
4) There may be a filter in the turbo inlet (not sure on the fords), get rid of that.
5) Check point 1 every service, and make sure this is good.

Thanks for your input mate, I make sure it gets fresh oil every 12-15K but might bring this down to 10 now. The sump baffles me that its both tiny and has a sump plug not at the lowest point .1) Make sure those injector seals are good. Bad seals will wreck the engine. (Ask me how I know).

Gunna blank the EGR with a hole in the plate so as to avoid EML. Mapping isn't really an option for myself but i don't disagree it would be a wise idea.
Looking to buy a Haynes manual to guide me through these things (i'm learning still), wondered if anyone had any experience of the Diesel Engine Manual as an alternative to a model specific manual (this = https://haynes.com/en-gb/haynes-manual-diesel-engi...
