ST220 engine gone kabluey
Discussion
Friends, our ST220 estate (family car, great nick, 70k miles on 56 plate) is dead...
Apparently new replacement ST220 engines are available (i.e. "brand new" not rebuilt), anyone know where I might find one please??
The car’s currently with Jamsport (Northampton) for a precise diagnosis but the bottom end has gone and it sounds like the classic “bag of spanners”. They said it’s not uncommon on an ST220 and they fixed one earlier this year by fitting a brand new lump (found on eBay) that was surprisingly good value / cost less than rebuilding the existing engine due to the reduced labour involved. I checked eBay immediately but no such luck right now.
Mine already had a slightly noisy tappet issue that I planned to get fixed in the new year (local garage told me no big deal just annoying noise, and Jamsport also said it’s unlikely to be connected) so I’m trying to comfort myself that I already planned to get surgery on the engine, it’s now just bigger than expected!

Big thanks guys

There was a seller on EBay a while back with brand new engines, for around £1500 if memory serves me correctly.
Thank you, yes I heard about this too but haven't been able to find one so far (on eBay or otherwise)psychoR1 said:
Try ivor searl engines - reconditioned but well known in the trade.
Good tip I'll look into it, cheersGassing Station | Ford | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
