Hi,
I've just bought a new Fiesta ST200 from Sky Ford in Watford. I'd gone in looking for a daily hack (specifically a 2013 Mondeo 1.6 diesel) and spotted it lurking on the forecourt. I really loved the styling, especially the colour. I pick it up a week tomorrow. It's not quite the thing I normally buy (thought I was too old for a hot hatch), but having driven it I was smitten.
It's been a few years since I've had a performance Ford (Sapphire Cosworths), so I'm looking forward to see how far they've come on.

Whenever I have a long distance commute, I lose sh*t loads on the car. The Mondeo makes a bit more sense financially, but wouldn't provide the smiles per miles that the Fiesta will. You never know, I might be back in the City next year and the car will sit in the driveway for the next three years.
Well here I am three months in and 5,000 miles on the clock. Fairly sensible motorway hacking returns an effortless 40.2mpg. I did manage 47mpg, but then I realised that life is just too short.
No issues, though the brakes sound 'rough' every morning, like the car's been left a while. This disappears as the journey rolls on. Guessing it's the discs not liking the salty roads. Never had this before in a car, so who knows.
The brakes are a bit of an oddity. Sometimes feeling strong, other times (infrequently) coming in late and snatchy. Any ideas as to why most welcome.
The more I drive it, the more I realise it's got plenty of hidden talents handling-wise. Straight hacking gives a bumpy, nervous ride. Push hard, though, and it just digs in and yanks you round the corner. Very impressive.
It could do with a little more umph. While fast, there's a distinct lack of drama. That said, I can't imagine it would be too embarrassed by many other cars.

My son has a 2016 ST3 so not quite the ST 200. He has EBC Yellow stuff pads in all round and they have made a big difference. His is also played with slightly, he has a Revo stage 1 map and Revo cold air intake and he's had it dyno'd at 240hp which is pretty good for these engines. it is a quick car and he plans on doing more to it when funds allow. He also has H&R springs on it and these have improved what was already a very good handling car.

No question - I recently traded my mk 2 orange Focus ST to a Ford dealership in Edinburgh. I was a little surprised that they sent it straight to auction - it has now surfaced at a garage 300 miles away in Wolverhampton, with the amusing description "This Focus ST-2 is the last of a few unspoiled examples left." I know not everyone left their car in stock form, but I wasn't aware mine was the last! Andy OH said:

Stage 1 will not take a Mk7 ST to 240bhp. Thats Stage2/3 power levels. He'll be getting a healthy 200-220bhp MAX from stage 1.As to warranty, it will be my son's problem not anyone else's, if anything happens he know's he has to deal with it. Once out of warranty it will have in excess of 300bhp and highly modified.

@JamesnotJim: Sorry mate but he is getting 240bhp I was there when it was on the rolling road and I couldn't believe it either as his stage 1 car pulled more power than a stage 2 Mountune equipped car. As the tuning place said, it's one of the strongest engines he's ever seen in an ST. My son knows what he has to do to get 300bhp, different turbo, de-cat etc. etc. and with the people he knows it won't cost him the earth to get to 300bhp.

...but it WILL NOT MAKE 240bhp from stage 1. He'd be fooling himself thinking that what he saw was a true representation of what a stage 1 remap can do. Are you sure what he was told wasn't FLYWHEEL bhp?
Whenever BHP figures are talked about they are always flywheel BHP, I didn't say the figure was at the wheels. just like the ST 200 is flywheel BHP NOT at the wheels.
Jesus, chill out mate. All I know is and what he was told is his ST is one of the quickest and most powerful they have seen at stage 1.

You'd hope he was getting at least 200 from stage 1 as to all intents and purposes that's what they make at standard Its also a big big job to push these things past 300bhp.
