EGR Valve error

Hi all, New to the community.

I've recently had an error on my 06 C-Max with the battery light coming on the dash. I've used a diagnostics scanner and appears that my EGR valve is stuck open, likely due to carbon build up, i'm stick between trying the spray cleaner, taking it off and cleaning it or just closing it off completely.

Has anyone had this problem or any advice on the best course of action to take?
