Mondeo 1.8 Duratec blanking off EGR Experience?

Hi, my Mondeo mk3 has always had a "wooly" throttle response and I've read that blanking off the EGR valve has helped.

Has anyone here had any experience of doing this, good or bad? Is it likely to throw up an EML?
