S Max 1.8 tdci engine squeal
Discussion
Hi, new to the forums after forgetting my original login :-/
I've just purchased an 06 S Max with the 1.8 duratorque tdci engine, 136k miles. Recent full service, and dealer I brought it from did a new filter and oil change anyway. Has full Ford service history. On start up its lovely and quiet, but as the revs build to 2000 rpm there's a squeal comes from the engine, take foot off and it stops, or rev some more and it stops. At first I was thinking aux belt or tensioner, so a quick test I sprayed some wd40 on the belt and pulley bearings, hoping that if this stopped it, then I'd know to get a new belt or tensioner. But it stayed the same. So is it turbo squealing??
Is this a known issue with these engines? It drives great, plenty of punch and returns great economy. Going on holiday to Scotland in it end of August so wanted it sorted.
Thanks in advance
Tony
