So 8 weeks or so back I purchased a 2012 Mondeo Ecoboost 240PS, complete with warranty from a car supermarket. The car drove fine up until last week when the turbo suddenly started whistling and whinning at low speed. The car still drove ok when pottering but under power it would occasionally stutter and not pull as smoothly. I booked the car in for warranty yesterday which was diagnosed as a faulty boost valve solenoid. However, just received a call advising that replacing this has not fixed the problem so now its looking like turbo failure.

Seems a bit odd to me, but I don't know much about turbo petrol cars. Cars on 50k with full Ford service history, so turbo failure would surprise me. It doesn't smoke and hasn't used oil or anything.

Just wondering whether there's anything else that it could be or what would cause premature turbo failure? Like is there an underlying issue that's resulted in turbo failure or just one of those things?

BTW - Engine is similar to the Focus ST 250PS if anyone has experience with that being more common.

The car supermarket have been excellent btw so far, even providing me with a people carrier for a family holiday on Monday.

Just to close this off should anyone have similar issues, collected the car yesterday complete with replacement turbo, oil feed pipes, solenoid valve, oil, oil filter and coolant. Drives superb now with much stronger low down power and consistent power throughout the revs. No more whistling turbo and a lovely car to drive once more.

Car supermarket have been excellent and very thorough in their repairs. I won't name them as I know its against forum rules, but they run a lot of adverts and a catchy name.com. They seem to receive a lot of bad press but imo, 1st class. I suspect many car dealers would try and squirm their way out of such an expensive repair.
