I'd have to agree there. The Polo GTI is an absolute flying machine, has been underestimated in almost any review you find. I'd go as far to say it's the best hatch available now, especially if you fancy chasing down M3s on your commute. Personally, I'd get a Polo GTI. Fiesta wouldn't know which way it'd gone.
However, I would suggest only getting one if you're interested in buying fairly soon. Once summer is over and it starts raining a bit more I'd say your only option is a new Focus RS. IIRC, it's the only car available today that can be driven in wet conditions. Anything else explodes immediately.

0.2s in the 0-60, same weight, same power (within a few % anyway). Not exactly a walkover by any standards at all.The Fiesta is limited to 180hp in 1st and 2nd, after that it's up to 197.
Personally I'd probably have the 208GTI with its cool panoramic roof. All great cars though.

My girlfriend has a Fiesta ST and it's a great little car, the ride is pretty firm though but being a Civic Type R man I'm sure you will manage, it's not appallingly damped or anything like that, but you won't be floating along on a cloud of happiness and joy if the roads you use are terrible, which, this being the UK, they probably are.
It's a nippy little bugger though and it has terrific front end grip - it's a real hoot to hustle down a windy B Road but it's also a reasonable enough motorway cruiser despite being a reasonably small motor, so as a compromise between the two it's quite a good prospect.
The centre console is awful, crap and ugly though imo, I hate it.
I'd be tempted to look at a Peugeot 208gti if I were in your boat, I think they look like great little cars and I'd love to give one a try.
Third option, and clearly the best of the bunch, a Polo GTI, a more mighty vehicle has never been produced, you will be able to totally humiliate owners of more expensive/exotic machinery as they will be sat at the side of the road crying their eyes out after kerbing their precious, diamond cut alloy wheels,

In all seriousness, I will very soon be in the market for a 'junior' hot hatch and I'll be going down the Abarth 595 Turismo route. Excites me more than any of it's competitors, even if it is, on paper, the slowest in a straight line.
Mini Cooper S/JCW came in at a close second, but can't get away with the interior or it's apparent bulkiness.

Clio III 200 - cheaper to buy but couldn't justify fuel costs. Love the look of them though.

The Abarth would be up there for me. They are imo one of the very few nice sounding 4 pots.
