Trying to help a mate sell his S-Max and helped him put this together. It's had over 200 views without anyone getting in touch. Parker's price guide for this model in "private - good" with the factory fit extras is £8,125 so £7,750 seems a fair starting price?

You are asking retail money for it, it needs to be far cheaper.

Ignore Parkers, they haven't a clue and they are only a "guide" anyway; Glass's says retail is £7650, CAP says £6995, both of those guides know far more than Parkers.

Look at what they are up for; e-bay/completed listings, classifieds, Autotrader etc.

I just did a quick search for private ads for the 2.2 on autotrader. Obviously these cars are still for sale so not any indicator of a price they sold for, but there are more expensive ones on there with comparable or worse spec at a glance? I'm far from being an expert of course, but the asking price doesn't seem outlandish in comparison to others around.

Well I just went to Glass's and without even putting in any options, just from my mate's registration it came up with:

"Private sale price from £7,720.00 to £10,090.00" So where are you getting your "Glass's say retail is £7650" from?

Good grief... I just tried CAP as well for a laugh and got "Average private sales price Information icon £5175 - £5550" so do any of them actually have a clue? WBAC offered £5,450 without knowing about any options and they're normally waaaay under private sale price, aren't they?

The ad looks fine. The car looks tidy. It's a good model.

Some won't like the wheel colour, the car colour and the mileage. Some prefer the 2010 facelift cars.

If nobody is ringing then it's the price. S-Max demand is usually ok.

Glass's online and my mistake; it is £7620.

Well CAP works of current auction prices as do WBAC as they are owned by BCA, so I think they both know their onions.

Reduced from £7750 to £7495 redface that'll do, now it's a bargain. Bet the phone is ringing off the hook!

So this is kind of confusing. I went to http://www.glass.co.uk/myglasshome/valuations/ and I get:

Seems somewhat at odds with the screenshot you provided. It seems a bit of a lottery. It's obvious that the people viewing it consider it overpriced so he's going to either have to sit tight and hope someone is prepared to pay more or drop his price.

I've not got any beef with WBAC or whatever but it seems that there is a heck of a wide variation in valuations provided to the public. It seems well known among many on here that the WBAC valuation is notoriously low compared to what could be achieved with a private sale. Therefore an offer of nearly £5.5K should mean in real life (provided that a buyer can be found, of course) he should be able to get at least close to £7K I'd have thought.

Thanks for the feedback anyway. I suspect he'll end up dropping his price eventually.
