Hi, I just changed the cambelt on my 2010 fraud KA and I now have an engine management light on. Plugged in code reader p0016 which is crankshaft/camshaft sensor. I read on one site about having to tell the ecu when you change a belt so it can relearn the timing, really! I cancel the code light goes out, and within 30 seconds it's back on. Ps the car runs fine.HELP

Hard as it is to hear it, I would imagine the timing is just a gnats cock out. Do these have the pulley on the bottom of the engine that is fully floating? Did you use the timing pins,or just line it up by eye?

Cheers

Marked everything with tipped old fashioned I know but everything went back exactly as it was, I've now ordered the timing kit to check it but the thing I'm not so sure of is it also has vvt. The timing marks are on the flywheel end and the cam pulley moves freely when loosened, ie no key way, but the cam was marked and replaced in the same position. I must also say the reason for the cambelt change was a head gasket, and with the head being skimmed I'm wondering wether the skimming of the head also contributes.

Mmmm with the information you have given, I think you need to go back and time it with the pins I'm afraid. VVT IME doesn't respond well to tipex marks. (I know I have a Micra engine that won't start).

Cheers

What engine?
TBH the old tippex trick doen't work on floating sproket engines, you need the timing pins to get it 100% spot on, even the older zetec with the woodruff keyed crank needs the pins and plates to get it to run perfectly frown

If this is the same engine as the Fiat 500 then the ecu adapts to the slight stretching of the belt as it wears.

When the belt is changed the ecu sees the cam timing advance suddenly and throws up a light thinking something has gone out of spec, you need to have the adaptation reset by someone with a scanner.
