Just been to get a new blipper for my wifes Ford Focus. The local stealer wants £35 for the remote bit and £75 to program it FFS! Needless to say I declined his offer - anyone know of a cheaper solution.

I don't think their is a cheaper way, Nighthawk may be able to tell you when he checks in.

As far as I know you need two keys to program another key, if you only have the one key then it is a programming at dealers job.

If you want more info goto www.ffoc.co.uk (Ford Focus Owners Club) and post a message on their Forum under Ask Tezza ( Ford guy ) or Security section

Hope it helps

Hi m8

£75 sounds like an hours labour, which seems to be the standard charge made by the southern dealers before they'll even commit to opening a car door.

What you need CAN be achieved without setting foot in a service department...........BUT, you'll need at least 2 keys which will start the car.

If you have 2 coded keys, you can program a further key with a few simple steps.

The remote door locking fob is a totally different system and is by an large unconnected with the PATS system. This too can be user programmed with similar actions to the key. Again when you attempt to program the new remote fob, you'll also need to reprogramme all other available fobs other wise the system will forget them.

If you mail me with the cars VIN or reg i'll sort out some step by step details for you.

With a little luck and a few choice movements of the wrist you'll soon be again

* If you have only one working key, your stuck with the prospect of shelling out over a hundred notes for the key/fob and programmng*
