Can't get in to Focus 2005 2.0 tdci
Discussion
For a friend's car -
When I went to start it up to move it I couldn't get into it. Neither key works in the drivers door lock and none of the central locking function is working. The only thing I can open is the bonnet which opens with the keys and triggers the alarm. I tried putting jump leads on in case the battery was dead but no difference. There is not even a click from any buttons on either key and no other way to get into the car. Any ideas.

If the car alarm sounds when you open the bonnet, I would say it is not the car battery.
I know this sounds odd, but are you sure you have the right car!
Have you tried replacing the battery in the key with the remote? - 2032 code if I remember correctly. - if the key lock on the drivers door has broken this may work. (I did not need to do any of the re-programming some speak of when changing this battery.)

If you lock the car with the remote then unlock it with the key it will upset the alarm system. If the car battery is really low I would have expected the jump leads to provide sufficient power to operate the central locking. iF you have access to one try a power pack rather than jump leads from another car. Also put the neg clamp on a lump of engine/mounting rather than the battery terminal.
To change the battery in the key prise off the battery cover and replace with a fresh CR 2032. If done within reasonable time I.e. don't take a meal break but no panic either, the Key will still operate the central locking in normal circumstances.

Definitely the right car I know this sounds odd, but are you sure you have the right car!

Does the alarm not run on it's own battery? My Volvo one does.

I've told him to try another known good car battery and replace the cell in one of the blippers (and clean the contacts)To change the battery in the key prise off the battery cover and replace with a fresh CR 2032. Waiting to hear!

Door cylinder lock should work with or without battery power (be it vehicle battery or plip battery). What happens when he tries to turn the key in the lock? No rotation?
Just caught up with him. No movement when turning the key in any of the locks. He doesn't know when the locks were last used, probably never. Is it WD40 and wiggle time? Just realised - there is only one lock. He's stuck eh?

Indeed, there is only 1 key door lock, the rest are only operated internally or by the central locking!
Randomly, have you tried the boot open button on the key, see if this opens the boot, then you could climb in? - might work as it does not have to open all the doors etc.
Next up would be to break in, either flex a door open enough to get something into the door handle inside or find a replacement window and apply a hammer to the window in the car.
Good point about the alarm being remotely powered, however I have never seen any mention about replacing a separate battery.

Thanks for the suggestions. He's having it dragged to the Ford Dealer down the road. They claim to be able to get in non-destructively.
Thing is, he's put it up for sale and a girl phoned about it. She still wants to come see it even though he told her that is literally all she can do, just look at it.
