Ford Capri V6 Exhaust
Discussion
Ok, so bit of a "I don't really expect to get a definite answer" sort of question.
I've got a Mk3 Capri, which had a 2.9 24v Cosworth swap a few years back. At the time I was still living with the parents, was young and foolish, and didn't put much thought to actually living with the thing.
So, the exhaust its got on there is similar to this:
It was designed for the 2.8i Capri, 2" bore exhaust, middle-box, and small rear silencer, with 3" exit. (I actually thought it was 2.5", but it appears they didn't do one, and its definitely bigger than 2"). I've also got no "Collector boxes", or Cats from the donor car, so the headers are mated down straight pipes to the middle boxes.
It is LOUD.
Infact, after the first year, I actually made a pair of inserts that slipped into the exits, and reduced the diameter down to 2", which deadened it a bit, but not enough to live with day-to-day.
So now i've moved out, lived for a few years in a sleepy little village with a lot of elderly neighbours, and actually don't want to run her, because I know i'll upset somebody pretty quickly.
So...
I can't afford to have a stainless system made up, and so I was debating replacing some, or all of the existing exhaust system with Bosal kit for the standard 2.8i Capri. Like this:
It is much smaller bore, but i can easily get some pipe-reducers to drop the diameter, and by the looks of it I have the choice of replacing the Middle boxes, rear boxes and exits, or both.
So, any thoughts HOW much quieter changing one or other set of silencers is going to be? Am tempted just to go for the back boxes, which I don't imagine do a massive amount of actual silencing, in the hope that the reduced tails will cut it down enough...
Thoughts?

personally I would go for getting an X pipe fitted to join the two banks up, should improve low end torque and make it much quieter/drone less as well
The biggest noise reduction on my mk2 Granada with the BOA engine was having tubular manifolds made up for it, but thats not a cheap option.
The other alternative is to get some inserts in the silencers fitted. Perforated tube squeezed in at one end and welded in the silencer perforated tube to encourage the gases to go around and through the silencer packing material

Ah Ok - Evidently you aren't running a "basic" BOA install then!
Mine is pretty standard BOA, cone filter, vectra injectors, on a Megasquirt ECU, and a Type.5 4-speed manual box, and a 2-litre rear axle. Fun in the wet!
I had a go with making up some inserts. TBH i really don't think the "rear box" is much more than an empty shell with a pipe coming out of each end - although i'd half to cut one in half to confirm that! Suppose I could jam my hand up there when I get home!lol!
