I have a Focus ST MK3 which is 2 years a old and I keep toying idea of getting it mapped but wondered if Bluefin would be the way to go?

I know the Mountune route involves a new inter cooler so is a remap a waste of time without a new intercooler? I don't really want to spend out for one I just wanted a remap.

What kind of performance increase will bluefin give and is it useable power or am I better leaving as is as I do fear bigger repair bills if the clutch goes

All that jazz

I've toyed with the same idea with mine, but then I remember how it struggles to get the power down onto the tarmac with the standard hp so any kind of increase will just make that even worse. Of course you don't necessarily want the extra power for traffic light grand prixs but more for 'general' driving, but I find that they pull away rapidly enough in any gear as they are, so personally speaking I can't really justify the remap.

I'm no mechanic or engineer, but for a mere 10% hp increase on a 250hp engine I wouldn't have thought that an uprated intercooler and completely different induction pipework would be needed (as per the £500 Mountune MP275 package).

I do find it odd the mountune kit requires an intercooler as the factory fitted one is the same part as the mk2 rs which has 300bhp so the cooler will cope with 275 easy enough

There are a few options for maps bluefin works ok but does create an odd flat spot as it come on boost

Why? It's a complete different engine and turbo design that produces far more heat than the Mk2.

The DreamScience unit was pretty good on our older Focus ST. I presume it'd work well on these later ones too.

While this may be the case I've not heard of a single issue of the cars suffering from heat soak with stage 1 maps.

That's good to hear maybe a revo map would give best results but it's not easily reversible, shame the bluefin can give a flat spot

Is it worth replacing the panel filter or could this actually loose power? I know there is a Mountune one

Using a Mountune upgrade means a/ you have cheaper insurance than an aftermarket remap, b/ You can leave it on the car when you resell and will keep its value c/ you don't loose your manufacturers warranty. I am sure that the Bluefins/ Dream science etc maps will work well, but if Mountune say to use an intercooler, then there must be a sensible reason behind it, even if it is more costly than just uploading a map.

The mk2 Focus RS intercooler is poop!

It could barely handle the boost for that car. There had been many cars with heat issues on track and/or pushing hard.

No wonder Mountune recommend upgrading. Lots to choose from, on my RS and wife's ST we went with Airtech.

Well after a couple of days I'm really happy with how it drives now car pulls significantly better but still pulls nice & smooth with no flat spots
Revs to 7k & the over boost now goes to 1.8bar on the gauge & settles back at around 3/4 on the gauge which it holds to the redline

Only other mod on the car is a mountune cat back

Hi I know this is an old post but just wondering how you got on I’m also looking at adding the Mountune exhaust and then having the car remapped with remap kings, the Mountune 275 is a lot of money just wanted to see if anyone did the same route as me and how they got on
