Done something most people I know can`t get their head round. Sold an E90 320d touring in perfect condition and bought a mint 20k mile Mk6 ST Fiesta.

Smaller, less practical, less economical, tinnier, noisier, less comfortable, more expensive to insure and have given the hard of thinking and social status climbers at work the impression I`ve `downgraded`.

I absolutely love it. What a great wee car to drive and have fun in. I actually enjoy driving to work now and it brings a smile to my face and I`ve already ordered a new `performance` (ha ha) panel filter as the car is bone stock. Something I haven`t done for god knows how many years and kinda renewed my interest in modding.

I know 150hp isn`t much but in this little thing it`s works. Maybe I`m getting old but I don`t genuinely see it as a downgrade and I think some people have forgotten that fun is important in a car.

Good for you.

Got one for my wife last Christmas and she loves it. I've driven it a few times and its a very solid, fun little hatch that feels stronger IMO than its 150 BHP.

That`s what I thought. Although it lacks any `quality feel` it is actually solid and quite `go karty`. Didn`t think I`d take to it like I have.

I loved mine. Shame someone wrote it off!

Now drive an E46 330i. It isn't a patch on my old ST, in hindsight, I wish id just bought another.

The daughter first car, a black 2006 model. I throughly enjoyed driving it and other than servicing, tyres never cost much well fuel aside! She was heartbroken when she had to sell, university funds. Sometimes sensible is a bad choice, enjoy.

Only real downside is the lack of a 6sp gearbox, if I'd found an easy conversion we'd probably have kept ours.

Its interesting that when new, the ST had mixed reviews, most mags thinking it underpowered compared with the Clio 182.

Personally I have found it better balanced than the Clio 182, which when I was driven by a lunatic salesman on a test drive, seemed a bit ragged on the limit. It also has similar performance to the Golf GTI 16v, with about 130/140 BHP/ton power to weight, which is a sweet spot in a hot hatch; in other words quick enough to entertain, but slow enough to allow you wring it out without losing your license.

Anyway, top tip, Kumho 39 Ecsta Tyres, £70 a corner from Black circles, suit the car very well!

Finally, in the right colour its a cracking good looking car. Ours is blue with white side stripes, but not bonnet stripes....

Either your definition of "wring it out" is different to mine, or you live in Germany or on the Isle of Man.

I think I know what he means. It`s not the kinda car that has you saying "whoops! I`m over the ton!" without realising it. The car entertains and feels quicker than it is.

I don't agree with you. I just remember thinking "this thing is quite nippy" and the speedo was often well past the 100 mph mark.

Well, fair enough. I`ve had some pretty rapid cars and currently own another `nippy` car so maybe I should have said you can have fun in it without losing your license in one foul swoop.

I like the Fiesta ST it`s something Ford have got `right` I think. I`ll probably hang onto it for a while.

Here it is...

...and here's the last blue Ford that sat here. (bit of a difference yum )
