The Focus is at the Ford dealer at the moment and I had a call earlier to say the DPF needs changing for £1100! Turns out the tank is empty and just needs filling up. They have to recommend a DPF change at 75K.

Does it really need changing at 75K? The engine light has been on, but should be cleared with the tank top up. The top option was only £70, but not recommended (obviously!).

The car does 40 miles on the motorway each day so should last longer than 75K IMHO.

I have seen online that it can be replaced for £300-400 from non-Ford garages.

If its a PSA engine, then Volvo recommend a dpf replacement for the PSA engine at 75k miles. If its running with no fault codes, then I would just get it refilled and run until the em light comes on or get it cleaned out, which we had done on a Ranger with 120k miles recently and is fine.

Tank topped up and all lights have gone out. Turbo hose changed as well to stop the small oil leak around the Turbo.

Thanks could have been a lot more expensive!

Engine is a 2008 1.6 TD btw.

Just had the DPF replaced with a Ford reconditioned one on mine at 105k. I believe that even with regular use they will still get to a point where the ash loading on them causes the differential pressure to exceed allowable limits and throws it into limp mode, which is what happened to mine.
