fitting OEM roof bars to 2000 Mondeo

Hi All, probably a daft question, have picked myself a shed of a mondeo up and nabbed a bargain set of OEM roof bars for a mk2 2000 model - question is, I know nothing of roof bas etc.
On the brackets they have the numbers 1 and 2 - now im presuming number 1 bracket connects to the opposite number 2 bracket and the other number 1 bracket connects to the other number 2 bracket? that sound about right? in the daylight itll probably be fairly obvious!! cheers
