Mondeo V-6 exhaust...
Discussion
Hi all, have found my perfect 'daily driver'; 2006 Mondy with the 2.5 Duratec and 5 speed autobox. Very refined, but under open throttle the motor has such a charming warble I'm wondering if an aftermarket or bespoke exhaust would further clear it's throat ? Also, how do we stand legally as to; ditching the Cats ? (MOT time etc.) Thanks as ever

I have a mk1 2.5 V6 which only has the manifold pre-cats and passes it's MOT emissions test with no bother. These engines sound good with an aftermarket exhaust, from the y-pipe I have a de-cat pipe, then a stainless single mid box, with a single stainless pipe to the back axle which then splits into 2 stainless pipes either side of the car with no silencers.
They also sound good with an aftermarket cone filter!!

The pre-cats are close coupled ones, which are there largely to heat up quickly, because the main cat takes a (relatively) long time to come up to temperature. All MOTs are done with the engine at working temperature so the pre-cats should never have any bearing on performance.
If you run a cone filter under the bonnet then be prepared to mess around with duct work, or else pay a horsepower penalty. Its pretty cramped under there and gets rather hot, which isn't good for power.

I don't run with any ductwork to my cone filter and have 184bhp and 180 lb/ft torque on the rollers with just a cone filter, smoothed standard throttle body, main de-cat and 3 box stainless exhaust, heat isn't really an issue when on the move....If you run a cone filter under the bonnet then be prepared to mess around with duct work, or else pay a horsepower penalty. Another Mk1? Just spent a grand sorting mine out (sills and arches rusty). I must be mad but have an emotional attachement to the thing, had it since nearly new!
Yep a MK1, it was a 2.0 Ghia X, but have done a full original parts conversion to V6 after my 24v was written off a few years ago, full RS kit and just about every factory and dealer option fitted too!Gassing Station | Ford | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
