My wife has a 2001 2.3 Galaxy with Cruise Control, on a recent holiday to S France/Italy I selected CC and it didn't work
A mate of mine said it was probably the pipe come off (Pneumatic?) so he looked at it, it had come off, he refitted the pipe but it still doesn't work, he suggests that the module has probably sucked in water and will need replacing.

Before I buy new module etc, does anyone have any more knowledge on what the problem could be and if there's a cheaper way to fix it?

The worst thing is that it almost certainly failed whilst still in warranty (Holiday was a few days after warranty expired and CC had not been used for a while) but my experience of Ford warranty is that it is cp (long story!) - if it is one second out of warranty or in any way listed in the "small print" then they don't want to know.

Any suggestions

Without seeing the car it's hard to determine whats gone wrong with it.
But I will comment on the warranty situation.

Ford's vehicle warranty is far from poor, in fact as far as i'm concerned it's a little too lax.

Even vehicles outside of the warranty terms will be considered for a contribution towards the repair cost as long as the vehicle fulfills certain critria.

Your local dealer can give an idea of eligabilty or you can call the ford customer relation centre.

One of the most common causes of cruise control failing is a blown brake light bulb, have you checked the operation of the lights?

Thanks Nighthawk, Bulbs are all OK, Maybe warranty is good but I had a big problem with Ford over the seat fabrics which deteriorated very quickly and which they didn't want to know about after just 18 months (car warranty 3 years, trim 12 months) the only other time I'd dealt with warranty issues outside of warranty period was with BMW who were superb (although the dealer less accomodating) about it, but the Ford/seat issue (in which incidentally the dealer was fine with but Ford were not) is a long story that I'd rather not go into at the moment.

I've been told that the cruise control unit is a VAG unit (Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra) all built by VW/Seat in Spain but with Ford engine and that it works with pressure (manifold?), I'm told that the pipe is prone to cracking and falls off but if water is sucked in it can damage the module, which is fitted behind the nearside headlight.

I just wondered if any of the PH ford collective might have had/solved the problem economically or got any advice, otherwise I shall have to get new unit fitted at main stealer prices.

Cheers
