Just bought a 2L S-Max Titanium X Sport (2011)
Discussion
Feeling pretty chuffed with myself. Can't say I was overly thrilled at the prospect of buying an MPV but family circumstances have changed so - working to a £15k budget - it was either an S-Max, Galaxy or C4 Grand Picasso. I've not had the best of history with Citroen and the interior was clearly a step back from Ford's offering.
I'm not overly bothered about depreciation and with most of the mileage being short hops around town I decided to opt for Petrol... and balance the higher depreciation with the prospect of lots of kit / extras and a lower price point.
S-Max clearly has a bit less space than the Galaxy but couldn't make the premium for space stack up over the list of potential kit when looking at the S-Max TX Sport... so, have gone S-Max.
I'm pretty happy that I've nailed a decent looking, fully-loaded family wagon. Fully loaded with kit and I'm picking it up next week. Got a bit of a journey home from the pick up which is a bit of a bonus.
Can any one share any insights / watchouts of owning/driving these? For starters, looking at the MPG I'm guessing that - having recently owned an RX-8, I'll be on best mate terms with the forecourt attendant again...!

Check the wiring into the boot lid, the Insulation wears away and causes all sorts of problems. I assume that you have the 18" wheels as well. Check that tyres are correct. The 225s are cheaper than the 235s as are the lower load rate, just make sure that someone has not tried to penny pinch.
I think that our's was a Friday afternoon car, lots of little problems, malfunctioning parking sensors, breaking bits of plastic etc. Seems to eat brakes as well.
Having said all that, I know a few other people with them and nobody else seems to gave had any problems.
We've had our Smax for 6 years now, the wife loves it and it is used as a real workhorse/family bus. It is definitely the bus to have if you need a people carrier, it drives better that the Mondeo and can be hustled along far better than it has any right to.
Hope you enjoy it, your motoring life is not over just yet.

Good choice. We've had our 2011 2.0 Ecoboost S-Max since Feb 2012 (9K on the clock when we bought it, now just ticked past 56K), and it hasn't put a foot wrong. It's pretty economical too for such a heavy car fitted with a petrol engine and auto 'box. Our long term average is 30.9 according to our company fuel card spreadsheet.

We only average about 35mpg from our 2006 2.0 diesel!Collected the beast from Arnold Clark, Linwood (nr. Glasgow) yesterday and enjoyed a truly brilliant, varied 7 hour blast back down to Kent.
First-up, all credit to Jonathon Findlay and the team up there who presented me with the car in 'as new' condition. Engine purring, all paperwork present and correct, previously mentioned minor flaws corrected and took plenty of time to walk me around the car, familiarise me with all the tech / features... not to mention picking me up from the airport and provided much needed refreshments... especially satisfying given my 4am start! My only regret is not being able to have local contact with them as their most local branch to me is likely to be Liverpool. Nonetheless, with service like this, they'd be welcome down to London anytime.
As for the car, utterly effortless drive. £75 to fill her up (again, done for me in advance by the guys at AC) which pretty much got me door to door. Trip computer suggested approx 29 mpg but to be fair, I was booting it! And my god did it fly... as far as MPVs might fly!
Delighted with the Titanium X Sport trim (in and out) and all the added extras.
I'd actually been driving the 2 litre diesel (on loan from work) this week in prep for collecting this 2l Ecosport/Powershift Petrol. In some ways I wish I hadn't as the diesel was sluggish and the cabin comparably unrefined even though it was a Titanium. The Petrol far exceeded expectations built up this week and was comfortable cruising down the left hand lane as it was foot down in the outside lane. It was also incredibly nimble changing lanes on a very busy M25 plus was great fun on the London-Kent border A and B roads.
Special mention of the stunning Scottish roads. Noticably well kept versus their British counterparts. It certainly made me wonder whether its meant the Scottish PH contingent were YES voters!? I'd not blame them if they were!
Also, special mention of the views. Heading out of Scotland into the Lake District was genuinely spectacular. Gorgeous early Autumn sunshine contrasting with the compelling, rolling hills and tempestuous skies. All made for a genuinely worthwhile run as opposed to a boring schlep back down saaarf.
So far, so very, very good. Maybe there is a driving life after MPV purchase after all!!??!

Identical to ours (which came from Glasgow too, through Motorpoint).
Speaking from experience I would advise fitting some sort of protective film to the lower leading edge of the rear arches and the lower part of the rear doors where is scallops out towards the arch, as per the photo. It's an area that gets peppered by debris from the front tyres and as far as I'm aware there isn't an aftermarket mud flap kit for the Titanium X S-Max because of the body kit. I've managed to mask ours a bit with polish and wax but ideally it needs a repaint.

This car is an absolute treat!
We're a good few months in and - aside from frequent trips to the fuel station - it's proving to be a revelation.
I'm absolutely loving the ride. Utterly effortless. Nice balance, torquey... although that's shown up the tyres need replacing(!). Decent quality materials in cabin. The Alcantara seats look and duffel 'the part' and I've even taken to the gratuitous slices of carbon fibre Ford have bolted to the doors and dash!
Excellent connectivity... although the slightly older Connect voice control is a pig and doesn't get any usage as a result. Will look into any potential upgrades when it heads in for it's first service (in my ownership) next year.
Brilliant fun with or without passengers. Carbuyer.co.uk's video review suggested you ended up driving like James Hunt as it's really doesn't feel like an MPV... and so it's proved.
Since buying, a couple of mates have also branded out. Renault, Citroen and Vauxhall parked on their respective drives. That's given me a chance to have a comparable nose-about and I'm certain I've secured the winner... in respect of what I look for in a car.
It's changed my mind about perceptions of the Ford brand (this is fully loaded and feels like luxury... providing you don't go driving too far into the subterfuge). Not sure I'd shoot for another Mondeo (ever!) but I'm certainly a convert when it comes to 7-seaters.

Great choice. For the money there's nothing better. I had exactly the same as yours save for the fact that it was a '10 plate and hence had the 200 ps engine vs your 240. It was brilliant - such a great family car and good fun to hustle along when the kids weren't in it. I did endless family trips to France loaded to the roof and with a roofbox and it didn't miss a beat. Suddenly though I had a problem with it cutting out and Ford replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure switch and a host of other components but I didn't feel totally confident with the end result and ended up chopping it in for a new shape titanium sport x pack with all the toys. Having said that, I'm a big fan and still think it's a brilliant car. What car other than the S-Max and perhaps a Boxster, nails its design brief so well?
Ah this is handy. I'm in the market for a s max. Told the Mrs if we get one it needs to be the sport. Again looking at the Citroens. But think we'd rather pay a little bit more for something we want and will keep longer as it's what we want. We just want to keep the budget about £10k. Seen one in Derby for 8k a 2.0 ecoboost. Was tempted by a diesel but think petrol will suit us more as we won't be doing miles and miles.
