Hi
We are seriously considering part exing our Clio for a Focus, the only thing putting Chan off is the fact that her very girlie CD/MP3 player will not fit into the slot in the Focus!
Is there a way round this, like an adaptor that can be fitted into the console so that a 'normal' single DIN stereo could fit? Oh yes, and what is the best one to go for for value/economy and performance? (The 1.2 Clio is pathetic!!!!)

Thank you

Chris

Yes you can fit a single DIN audio unit to the focus, you'll need an

Autoleads facia adaptor, available from halfords etc, and I would also suggest using the antenna adaptor and the audio lead converter looms to make the installation as easy and as quick as possible.

Does your Focus have steering wheel controls too?

if so you'll need to check if your chosen stereo will be compatable with it.

WOW!! Thanks for the quick response guys If we go for the Focus, it will have to be a Ghia version, after Chan being bereft of ANY creature comforts in the Clio!
Nighthawk, we're also considering a Civic, I've been looking at the Type Rs, insurance is only just over £300!!!!!
But, I think for now, a Focus would be perfect, as everyone who's got one seem to love it!

300 to insure a Gp 17 car, are you 90

The focus is a better handling car tbh on twisty roads, and the CTR doesn't compare to the Focus Ghia in the toy dept but the engine and gearbox in the R are lightyears ahead of the current focus.

Anyhow, back to topic, the ghia should have the steering column controls for the audio, so make sure the stereo will work with it.

Fitting should take less than 20 mins for the basic audio and leads.
if you need any help, gimmie a yell.

Cheers nighthawk ,, 90!!!! lol,, I think it's because we both have no points or crashes,, yet!! regarding the insurance quotes, the slow (relatively, and more or less the same insurance group!))ZR160 was over £500 for some insane reason, which is why we part exed it for the Clio in the first place, well, that and the crap dealer service we were subjected to, and we're told TVR are bad!!
The head unit Chan want to put in the car is a JVC one, it plays everything, which is good, but it has changable fascias, at the mo it bloody flowers!!!
I'm guessing you know your onions when it comes to ICE NHawk, what would you recommend for a smallish sub woofer for my Tam, not a lot of space in the area where is would be placed? I have the Pioneer Avic X1, and it sounds great too, but am just missing a little extra base!

Chris

I know a little about ICE, but I know an awful lot more about Ford and their vehicles (past/present/future).

How much space have you got in the Tam? I'm thinking a couple of 8" JL Audio subs would reinforce the bass line and not intrude too much into the boot, you'll also be needing and amp to drive them, 8" subs and a good set of components in the front should sound great. It all depends on what you want from the audio and how much of the car your prepared to sacrifice tbh.

I'm 32 on sunday with a clean ticket and i've never managed to get the insurance scum to drop below 600 for my civic.....I must be calling the wrong people

Cheers for that ,,, regarding the insurance, I just did a search on the AutoTrader website, got quote from £303 to just over £500 for a CTR!
Not got a lot of room at all in the rear bulkhead of the Tam , just thought I could have a smal 8" sub just to 'boost' the bass a little more, the Pionner sat nav unit has a seperate box where a sub can be connected.

I have just done another search for a Focus 1.8 Ghia, and it's not much more than the Clio!!! £250! Seems there are quite a few half decent ones out there for around the 5K mark, can't believe how much car you can seemingly get for your money!!! Have they any weak points I should know about, and should I be scared by high (ish) milers (60-90K)?

Cheers

Focus is a pretty sound car tbh, I'd be looking for as lower mileage as possible and full ford service history.

There are lots of rubber bushes in the suspension, so make sure they are free from splits and excessive movement, but even they aren't a common failure point.

The 2.0 with esp would be my choice, but the 1.8 will make a great mile muncher and town car.

back to the topic (sort of) I'd take the Tam to a car audio specialist and let them throw about some ideas with you.
