My Dad had a Mark 5 V plate 1.25 Fiesta Ghia. About 6 months ago now he went to open the car using the remote and it didn't work.Assuming that the battery was knackered he went back indoors and fitted a new one. When he went to use the remote again to open the car, it still didn't work. The car would only open by putting the key into the lock.
Whilst out he popped into our local Ford dealer, and explained his problem. They said that the key needs to be re-programmed and this will cost £135 and should only take 15mins.
My questions are does anyone now why the key lost it's programme, and is it possible to re-programme it yourself, or are there independants that can do the re-programming at a cheaper price.

Load of Tosh

The dealer has quoted for the re coding of the immobilser chip within the key.

The remote locking is NOT controled by that,
Upon removal of the battery you have about 20 seconds to restore power. After that re programming is needed.

Fit the battery (correct way round!!!)
sit in the car
insert the ignition key into the lock

This is where the fun starts..........

starting with the ignition off, you'll need to turn it to posII (batt lights) and off again between 4 to 8 times within 10 seconds and you MUST end up with the key in posII (batt lights on)

The vehicle will tell you when it's entered "Learn mode" by sounding the lights on buzzer, or turning on the fog light tell tale.

upon entering this state, press a button on the remote fob and the vehicle will confirm it has learnt and accepted the code.

now start the car to exit learn mode and then turn off.

It's been a while since I had cause to explain this process, so please be prepared to try it a couple of times. The level and age of the vehicle could mean it is 6 times to enter learn if it doesn't give a indicattion of entering learn after 4 quick turns of the key, try the process again with 6 or 8 turns.
also, the end process might be a little different, if the procedure fails after the engine has run, retry it and this time just key OFF after the car has confirmed the code.

Hope it helps,
it takes 10 seconds to do this, but explaining to someone you don't know on a vehicle your not infront of takes a little longer.

feel free to mail me if you have issues, but it's really easy to do.
