Which Sierra Drive Shafts?
Discussion
So are you fitting the MTX 75 gearbox too?
As your probably aware the Mondeo is a FWD car so i'm a little confused as to your plan of attack.
Eariler mondeo with 4x4 used the same MTX box with a gatrag transfer box to send power to the rear wheels.
I'm as to how your making it mid engined RWd.

still here.
which transmission are you going to use?
I don't think any of the sierra drive shafts will fit into the splines on the MTX box.
The sierra has equal length drive shafts, they had a type of Cv joint which fitted into the diff's sun wheels.
with the mondeo being FWD, it uses drive shafts of different lengths, the passenger side is a short single piece shaft but the drivers side it a two piece set up with a bearing and cv at the joint 1/2 way down to reduce torque steer and drive shaft twist etc.
also, is this engine being fitted in a transverse form or conventional?

ooohhh I feel a complete prat now
Of course you are completely right. I will have to get ST24 driveshafts and 'cut and shut' them to fit Sierra ones. Apparently the 4x4 Sierra driveshafts are the better bet because of their larger bearings. I just need to find both types from a breaker and get my friendly welder a few drinks
The engine is indeed retaining the transverse configuration - it will just appear back to front when the engine cover is raised.

No need for feeling , everyone on here is out to learn something.
Why can't the driveshaft set up use the ST24 shafts?
I'm sure there must be some hubs out there with the same number of splines, or just utilise the hub flanges from the mondeo maybe with the discs and brakes too.
what sort of rear suspension set up are you planning?
I'm not that well up on the kit car world, but i know a few bits and bobs about the blue ovals parts bins

I'm not sure why the ST24 shafts can't be used all the way out to the hubs really - maybe the fact that the FWD geometry would be wrong for a rear suspension setup? The kit designer just calmly announced this to me and my eyes glazed over at the point when he said 'this is what you need to do'(steep learning curve this kit building lark )
The suspension is fully independent double wishbone with coilover suspension units at a rakish angle. Using Cortina uprights on the front and Sierra hubs apparently. I am seeing the company again on Saturday so I think I had better listen more closely this time

I can't think of a real reason why the shafts couldn't be used at a push, but as i said earlier, i know little about kits, (at the moment, i may take one on next year though)
the Outer CV joints on the front drive shafts have a much larger amount of movement to allow for the steering angle. It might be something to do with that.
If he's overloading you with info, get it on paper. there will be loads of people on here who can offer more kit car advice than I can.
