i have a ford fiesta (mark 4 or 5 dont know which, how do i tell?). the engine is a poxy 1.2 but has zetec written on it

the car was not sold as a zetec however...

your car will be a 96 onwards fiesta with the 1250cc zetec se engine (correctly named as sigma)
the engine is a revvy little beast, but it's never gonna be a 1/4mile star.

Lots of tuning things to look for now, i've seen the 1.2's modded with

bigger throttle body
remapped ecu
piper x induction kit
light pressure turbo kit

it all depends on what you want from the car really.

Just to say there may be other forums about with more specific chaving details.

Oh and the Mk5 is the latest, looks a bit like a focus. Mk4 is like mine.

An induction kit is a big pipe and conical air filter which is fitted instead of the standard airbox. You'll get a tiny amount of power and a lot more noise (not necessarily a bad thing )

If it were me, I'd not spend money on the engine but get decent (Not comedy Max Power lowered to the deck shite) suspension to make the handling more sporty, the Eibach kit I've put on my Saab is an excellent compromise betwixt ride and handling, they'll no doubt do a kit for Fizzers.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you won't chav-up your motor.
