old Fiesta performance figures
Discussion
I'm trying to get some performance (if thats the right word) figures for L or M reg:
Fiesta 1.1
Fiesta 1.3
Fiesta 1.8 Diesel
Reason being I want a cheapo one for the fiancee to learn to drive in but will probably use it for the commute so don't want a wheezebag that won't go up hills or overtake anything other than roadkill.
If anyone can point me in the right direction of:
-bhp
-lb/ft
-0-60
-30-50
-50-70
figures that would be useful
max and
mpg
would be a bonus
Surely someone has put a database of car performance figures on the web somewhere but I can't find it!
Cheers
Zeb

I had a K reg 1.8D Festa (cos it "festered" a lot), rated at 60bhp. Was OK round town, but reaching speeds above 60mph was a chore. MPG was above 55mpg generally. The main thing though was the heavy engine was so high up and far forward that the body roll was horrendous - double decker buses and three wheelers being far superior cornering machines. Engine was still going strong at 130k miles. I believe it is currently delivering pizza somewhere in a dodgy part of town!

50bhp for the 1.1 and 60bhp for the 1.3
The mk 4 Fiesta is a MUCH better car (was the base for the Puma), with the 1.25 (all alloy) engine being lighter, more efficient and powerful (75bhp) than the old 1.3.

1.25 is a higher insurance group I think which would be a problem as the fiancee is still a learner.
I know the mk IV is a better car but there are fewer of them around than the mk 3, especially at the £600ish mark - may be worth looking for one though.
I think the mk IV base model was a 1.3, the 1.1 only continuing in the mk 3 (by then called the 'classic'
God, you gain sad bits of knowledge even looking for a banger!
Cheers

I had a 1.1LX mk3 when I learnt to drive. L reg.
I remember 90mph being an achievement and only achievable downhill. Motorways weren't best, as you'd be almost redlining it cruising at 70-80 (it does have a 5-speed box).
I don't remember it being particularly wheezy going up hills, and I lived in a hilly area. I guess it comes down to your frame of reference really. By definition, most cars are going to be faster
I'm sure as a commute wagon it will go fine - easy to fix if it breaks and cheap to insure, hard to nick because of the immobiliser, etc.

www.carfolio.com
plumped for a 1.3 festa - M reg (mark III shape though) I hope it has done 43,000 miles but the display only shows 5 figures so hope it hasn't done 143,000 miles! Carpet and seats suggest it is the former - pretty tidy car for £600 and I am surprised how you can keep the momentum up on it - bit loose and wallowy at the front but enough feel to press on a bit, need to concentrate hard though cos once you have braked it takes ages to build up speed again! Got my fiancee (provisional and 0 no claims) the car and the policy with her as main driver (and me to drive) + commuting use for less than a grand all in (plus 12 months MOT. Makes you wonder why people spend 10k on average cars...
