I've manged to blow the engine on my fiesta 1.1 (spat out a rod) and need to remove the damaged engine from the car to replace it with a new one (probably from a scrappers).

I was goin to just scrap the car but it seems a waste it has hardly any rust and would pass MOT no probs as my younger bro is about to start driving i thought i'd fix it and let him have it.

i'm doing it over the next month while i'm off uni and should be a good way of learning about cars i've never really done anything else like this beofre only oil/air filters sparkpugs changes etc has anyone done somthing like this before and want to pass on some tips advace ?

going on a mk2 fester with a 1.1 engine.......

*SAFETY TIP* - DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!

*TOOL TIP* - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF CROWBARS AND A COUPLE OF HEAVYISH HAMMERS

take the bonnet off (gives you alot more room to work),remove the waterpipes and radiator/fan,undo your manifold and move that out the way (remove if ness, split it at the base of downpipe),remove the fuel pipe from the carb, along with disconnecting the choke and accelerator cables, remove the wiring from around the block/head (label it as you go along, saves you going "where does this wire go?" at the end),place a jack underneath the engine and let the jack rest on the underside of the lump, remove the starter motor and undo the bolts around the bellhousing, get the engine lift into position and connect it up,once connected you can undo the engine mounts (there are 3 iirc),one at the side and 2 underneath......i would personally replace these as they can break quite frequently),slowly lift the engine with the hoist and give it a shake from side-to-side as you remove it,the lump should seperate from the box as you get to around 20-30 degrees.

hopefully i havnt forgotten anything major......i will soon be corrected if i have.
