Ka Brake Question

My Ka has started making a funny noise under braking.
When i brake its fine until it the ka gets down to about 20mph, then a rasping/grinding noise can be heard as the ka slows.
This noise is not permanent, its on-off-on-off-on-off as you slow down. Then when you stop and start again, you cant hear it as you accelerate. Braking from speed is fine, and no noise is heard at all.
The discs and pads were new on 6000 miles ago, and i've not had any trouble until yesterday evening when we set off home. The brakes still work, but it must be doing it for a reason. I'm supposed to be getting the discs/pads changed at the weekend for uprated kit, but until then i've still got to do 400 miles or so.
