We finally got round to getting a drive in the Racing Puma today, number 338, What a disappointment after all the waiting
Yes it had a big presence on the road, it really did look the dogs danglys But it only felt a bit quicker than the Zetec S and the handling wasn`t "phew that was brilliant" compared to the ZS either, the ride was firmer and but the seats were fantastic the exhaust sounded better than the Fiesta with some light crackiling from the tail pipe, overall then not what we were expecting i`m afraid it looks like we will wait to see what the new Fiesta ST drives like or wait until the Focus RS drops down to c£14/15k

ESCORT COSWORTH!

Nice tidy, unmolested examples are well within your budget, and highly unlikely to depreciate. It'll be some time before the Focus RS falls to £14k/£15k - many are still up for list price, even a year down the line.

If the EsCos is too old, then maybe a second-hand ST170 will fit the bill? You can pick up 12mth old examples from £12.5k at car supermarkets, or £13.5k from main dealers.

If the Puma dissapointed, I imagaine the ST170 will be an even bigger dissapointment, it certainly was for me. I suspect the badge has a decimal point missing between the 7 and the 0.

I'm told the ST170 can be chipped easily to liven it up somewhat.

I had one of these Racing Puma's up my backside a few weeks ago whilst in the Tam, not quite sure what the moron driving was trying to proove, lost him with very hard acceleration up a hill (Puma seemed to stand still in rear view mirror!), but he just absolutely had to overtake at some point, which he did of course, going over chevrons and scaring all the oncoming traffic,,,, yep, very impressed with the performance, it can certainly overtake me doing 50mph with a speed camera 50 yards ahead, well done mate!!!!

The Fiesta Zetec S is very underestimated, and I think a real little fun performance bargain, I'd keep it
