My mondeos Sony 6cd player is giving no sound.

The problem started tonight after being fine in the journey to work this morning. It seems to be reading the CDs ok - it is seeing the track names, but no sound comes out. It won't pick up any radio stations.

Bluetooth phone is connecting - if I ring out the person at the other end can hear me but I cannot hear them.

Have I inadvertently hit some kind of mute button, or is the unit faulty in some way? I!ve had an irritating dash rattle/squeak so I'm so decking if it's related - loose connections at the back of the head unit or something like that. The cars booked into a garage on fri, but I don't want to send them on a wild goose chase if its a button I've pressed by mistake!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

No, seriously... it is a common fault.
Hold down the power button for at least 20 seconds to completely shut down the unit, then when you power up it will re-boot and hopefully you will find normal service has been resumed.

i've tried switching it on and off several times, including starting and stopping the car completely.

Didn't know about the twenty second thing, i'll give it a go, thanks
