I've been offered a 45,000 miles '96 n reg escort cosworth lux from a friend, but it is on the register as a CAT D write off.
I saw the car before it was repaired and it had a glancing blow to the front drivers side which didn't look too bad.(new wing and repair to one chassis rail)
My friend has been repairing these sort of damaged cars for years & has made a 1st class job using genuine parts only.
Whats other peoples thought on buying this?
The price would be £10,000.
Would it be wise to have an independant inspection?

best view of that would be in the mirrors as you wave goodbye!

£7k - £8k would be more like it. If it's in smart condition and unmolested. Straight examples can be had for around £10k-£12k in a private buy. You need to knock 30% to 40% off that for a car on the register.

Is it still available? Would you get a couple of grand off? He'll certainly be doing well to get £10k anywhere.

Oh yeah, and if it's had chassis work, Autolign (sp?) is a must, I believe. A proper specialist inspection would be very wise before commiting yourself.

Lovely cars though - a contemporary classic. All the more so if you can pick one up for the price of a new poverty-spec Fiesta!

FYI There is a Monte for £8k on Ebay right now - this has been dropped from £8.5k last month. It needs some trim, so I reckon you might be able to contact him and get it for £7k if he actually wants shot of it!

It's the small turbo version, which is far harder to tune - less desirable for the modders out there.

Nice one, it'll be good to know there is another one back in safe hands. As for the missing trim, there are plenty of suppliers out there who can provide replacements, if the originals prove hard to source.

Must say I think they look far better with the full aero pack!
