Hi!

I've always loved the G4, and while I'm happy with my current toy I'd love to have something to aim for. Not a lot of G4's pop up, but I was just wondering what kind of price range a nice Dare G4 would be expected to fetch as something to aim for in future. I think there was a couple last year around the 14k mark? Are they likely to shoot back up with the economy etc?

Are there any Dare G12s on the road at the moment? Gorgeous cars. One day!

You could try phoning Mark Walklett at Dare...they occasionally have secondhand G4's for sale....don't go by their website, which may be updated every decade.....Dare are also about to launch a new larger road-going version of the G12..no details yet on spec. or price, but I believe they have built at least one...

It's about time, given the amount of times I've seen people asking if such a thing exists. I'll have mine with a Duratec please.

It's stunning. Gonna be a couple of years before I could afford one though sadly.

I was looking on a thread about the Clubsport. Apparently Dare were quoting £6k to get a roof fitted inc parts, labour and VAT.

It looks great without the lid and I'm sure it spares a bit of weight, but for £15k I'd probably want a roof so I could take it on holiday without fear of getting damp. If I was going for a proper track car then I'd spend half as much and get a good Fury/Phoenix.

Speaking of, has your Fury gone to a new home yet Yazza?

Nope changed my mind!

I think you're right, the clubsport is definitely a more track orientated car and I'm pretty sure it couldn't touch my £6k cheaper fury on track....

Achingly gorgeous though!!! But I do think it'd be worth more with a roof like you say.

re bold type, you've not seen a Dare G4 at full pelt then?
I suggest you view this video, especially just after 1min 10secs... and see a G4 trounce Elises etc etc etc. Watch the black and white part of the vid and see how the G4 leaves the rest of the field for dead.

And to think it is now 50 years since the G4 was first launched at the 61 Racing Car Show.

It should be leaving elises for dead surely? It's not that surprising.

First post by Snapper7 in this thread from 2008. Although later in the thread elans3 said that he got a quote for £3k.

As for the Elises, you are right, there were far from standard Elises.

I remember the Mallory Park race where Andrew Marler's very formidable tuned Elise - this Elise was so loud it was sent to the back of the grid for noise levels.
It still sped through the field but the Dare G4 won outright. However, the Elise took the lap record.

It didn't last as there was a second race later that day.
The G4 won outright ...again... AND took the Elise's (very short lived) lap record too!

Some races the G4 won not by a split second, but in some races by over 20 seconds! It was that good.

Here's another race, lining up front row of the grid next to a quick 911 and a Loti Esprit.

Look how the G4 took off... and won outright!

FABULOUS car!

Happy 50th Anniversary.

My 14 year old son keeps telling me to get rid of the Dare G4 and replace it with a Mustang GT500.

All I tell him is that when he gets his license and drive the G4 he will completely understand the G4--warts (constantly runs hot) and all.

He's right. Get the Mustang. Sell the G4 (to me evil )

Interesting view of the same Dare G4R at Lydden Hill from a Dare G12 perspective- up against a 600hp Subaru thing and an F2 chassis special saloon....

Amazing, that was years ago!

not sure I can 100% agree with the G4 being so much faster than an Elise, (and yes I was there at the time, in the Elise that cam 3rd twice).

Just to pick you up on modified, for the record, mine was straight out of the factory (as a sport 190) and that was my first race with 750. Yes, Andy's had some engine work (Minister) and got black flagged, however, had he not had the noise issues, I don't think the G4 would have won that day. (also worth pointing out that both my and Andy's Elises were both road cars, with number plates and tax disks, I actually drove mine to the race and back).

just for ref, here are the sheets from the day:
