In my search for an affordable, good looking, light and fairly nippy weekend runabout a came across some scant info. and pics of this car.

Whilst considering tvr s and GTM type cars I hit apon this lttle car, but can get little info via google. I could sign up with ginetta club but I just want more info to see if it's a goer.

Where to find more info.

prices.

seen any for sale.

are they a nightmare.

sort of questions like that.

Cheers

Mike

i am rebuilding my dad's at the moment!
its a lightweight two seater coupe/fastback powered by a chrysler/rootes 1725cc engine tuned by Holbay running on twin weber 40's i havent driven it yet so unfortunately can't tell you how quick although im not expecting a rocketship it doesn't weigh a huge amount and has around 120bhp so expect brisk performance. classic and sportscar did a test of it against MGB GT and triumph GT6 and they said the Ginetta wiped the floor with them. i know there is one for sale through the ginetta owners club at the moment for £4,500 i think and it looks very nice look in the Gsales section also cottage classics is a ginetta specialist and they always seem to have a few for sale www.ginetta.co.uk

CCharle6,

Good luck with the rebuild. Thanx for the info, I'm still searching around for more info.

I think the car you mention has gone, was it a blue one? I emailed the guy a few questions about the car but I had no response. Spoke to some other bloke on the phone about it and he reckoned it went last week.

great car. rare. only ever fully built. type-approved (crash test was one of the best ever results seen at MIRA at the time) - crash impact lifted rear wheels 6 inches but s/wheel moved just 1.25 ins, screen remained intact, and both doors were able to still be opened and shut normally - 100% cockpit integrity. can only continue to increase in value so u won't lose.

Well up at Stoneliegh and saw two lovely examples, a dark metallic witha monster engine and a white one that looked totally restored.

Unfortunately I don't think either of the owners were prepared to part with their chariots.

May have to look at what come up, even if a bit shabby and do a resto.

I've seen a modified (under the skin) dark metallic green G21 on the hillclimb at Lowton Park. Very nice car indeed. That exact car was featured in Practical Classics about five years ago. Owned by a policeman at the time.

hey

I like the G21....but i have some questions...

isnt this car a 2+2 charlie?

and this car has about 95hp with the Holbay head? (the G21 has 85hp)

also, from what little info on the web (only 80ish were made Hobson)....it is a fastback design but 'with no rear access' - what does this mean? access to the rear seats? the boot? - does it have a boot?

I think this car may be more practical than a G15 but I would like answers to these questions

2 seater only

around only 70 made i believe in the end

yes in standard holbay tune the engine with the twin webers makes around 95-100bhp however this engine was actually detuned and holbay made a cam called the E128 which takes the output back to the original of around 120bhp

there is a boot on the car, with a bootlid which also gives access to the spare wheel

i would probably think that this would be more practical than the G15 (i'd like one of those myself ) however because of the small number made finding out where the parts on the car comes from is slightly harder, the ginetta owners club are brilliant for information on any ginetta

i understand the Ginetta owners club are friendly....I wouldnt hesitate to buy one.

Still, a very nice car.
