Hi Ginetta Forum!

Can anyone suggest a good heat proofing material for the underside of my G27's bonnet? The original silver foil material is starting to peel away and needs replacing. Any tips on what should I use?

Thanks!

Heat under the bonnet used to be a big problem on my G27r so i used plenty of exhuast wrap around the exhaust and manifolds and on the radiator pipes.
This made a huge difference as prior to this, the bonnet heated up so much the bonnet paint became soft and almost bubbled, now no heat issues at all.
Get a couple of good quality rolls off e-bay,(the thicker the better) that will do the job nicely.

Nice one! Should I search for any particular brand or keywords on ebay or will "exhaust heat proofing" do the job? How much should I pay in your opinion?

Thanks so much for your help.

just tap in exhuast wrap and there is plenty to choose from but get the thicker grade material.
Also buy a good lenght of material (get 2 rolls if budget lets) as you will be supprised how much you use.

As said exhaust wrapping is a really cheap and feasible approach, think I'll have to do it to the 32 at some point just gonna be a bugger doing it.

Just one thing to bear in mind - the heat which doesn't escape from the wrapped manifold transfers further down the exhaust and heats the unwrapped sections to a higher temperature than previously. Bear that in mind if the exhaust box runs in the cill.

true, the extra heat does travel further down, thats why i wrapped it all the way down to the box, hence the need for plenty of material.
Remember to tie/secure the wrapping with S/Steel tie wraps to make a good job, it's the only thing that can withstand the constant temperature.
The insulation saved my car from a fire too when at Oulton park the fuel line disconnected from the carbs and sprayed fuel all over the engine bay.
Without the exhuast wrap, the heat from the manifolds would have certainly ignighted the lot, so the material has a safety aspect to it as well.

Thanks for the advice, I have ordered 100ft of 30mm (2mm think) exhaust heat proofing tape! Hope it'll do the job.
