Hi all i,m new to Ginetta's moving over from TVR's. I was thinking of using an ex racing G20 as a track car but want it to be road legalas i don't have trialer tow bar etc, how easy (expensive) would it be, hand brake, horn, indicators, headlights need to be added? would it have a registration plate? I would prefer an ex racer due to the roll cage and stripped interior.

Any thoughts

Cheers Guys

Hello wavey

Well, it's simple really. The race car is pretty much the same as the road car save for a few items. To be honest how easy it is t do depends on when the race car was built and how modified it has become especially the interior.
Simply put you need some front lights (the wiring should be already in there as i believe the one loom was used in the earlier cars anyway) and asscosiated switches - even the wiring should be in for them too! Then it's just a case of internal projections sorting out if there are any - ensuring the speedo is accurate and fitting all the necessary warning lights - again all wiring may well be in already. You will need to ensure a restrictor is fitted in the fuel cp to stop anything other than unleaded going in and you might need a re-map for emissions. If it is an older car you will need to fit a cat in the exhaust as they didn't run them. That really is about it.

This is assuming it's a g20 not a junior. If it is a junior things will be a bit more tricky windscreen wipers, heater, burst proof door locks hinges etc, but it can be done cool

Edited to say this is all assuming you are going to put it through an SVA test. Not sure what the cut off date is but at some point soon at changes to IVA or something similar and i'm not sure if this would cause bigger issues.

Thanks James for the info i was told by the seller that it should be quite easy but just wanted to make sure. At the moment I'm just weighing up all the options as there are some road legal G27R out there but i' have my heart set on a G20.

Thanks for your help and i will tell you what happens

Cheers Edd

Ginetta made a number of Road Legal G20's, it may be easier to source one of these. I think you can still order a new one too.

Do the race G20s run a catalytic converter? Another thing I'd check is the regulation about the full rollcage and how the whole "bang your head" regulations for the SVA would work with that.

Mine went through SVA with the roll cage on. All race cars have to run catalytic converters now.

I was wrong you cant order a new one as far as I can tell from the Ginetta website.

There is a red G33 for sal eat the moment. Its like a G27 only slightly bigger and with a V8! Set up by a good suspension tuner it will handle very well too

Yep...
It seems the car that saved Ginetta is no longer available as a road car.

I'm halfway through in making a G27R road legal as a G20 was harder to work on and not as practical (eg,27's have a boot lid, much easier for access, doors, etc)due to it's age no cat exhaust issues arise either. Good luck in what direction you choose. Had great fun at Oulton Park on wednesday with it untill the clutch cable went. Does anyone know what type of cable is used on G27's as i need to get a replacement.
