G4 Front suspension (spitfire type)
Discussion
i want to update my front with ride and height adjustable shocks from spax (at the moment only ride adjustable fitted).
i thought i will buy some from rimmerbrothers for a spitifre. now i found some comments of a guy selling standard spitfire shocks on ebay:
"Bought from Moss about 1 year ago for my Ginetta G15, but turned out not to fit that car as Ginetta modified the front suspension, fits all non modifed cars with this set-up though."
will this be the same on my G4-S4?

Have a word with the guys at Pro Tech:
http://www.protechshocks.co.uk/
They did the dampers for Spadge Hopkins' G4 racer as well as for my G15 racer.
They work out cheaper than Spax (mine were £70 per damper), are half the weight and are light years better.

top and bottom mount are the same as the spitfire ones? as i do not want to modify anything on my chassis.
I think spadge does not own a G4-S4 (the remake of the G4 form the 80´s) and i´m not sure if the "old" G4 used the same dimensions chassiswise as on mine.

phoned to protec...left them a voicemail message, telling them that i will sent an email enquiry.
after nearly one week still no reply...thats what i call a "good customer service"...
this happens in nearly 90% of email enquiries to uk-companies (and interesting wise only with uk-cpompanies).. when you phone them asking about the oustanding quote they tell you that maybe the mail ended in the spam-folder:
sorry uk-cmpanies: if you arent able to setup your spamfilters correctly do not wonder if the economic crisis hits you harder than rest of europe!!
unless you arent interested in dealing outside uk.
please also consider that most of non-uk clients may be able to type their enquiry in an email, but arent able to phone, due to not speaking english fluently!!

I live in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains,East Tennessee,USA, and have recently rebuilt a 1965 Ginetta G4 round tube. I telephoned Protech and ordered a set of front and rear, fully adjustable shocks and coilovers, the parts arrived 8 days later, well packed and fitted perfectly. I was most impressed by both the quality, technical competence, product "fit and finish" and super fast delivery.
Their prices are extremely competitive and from my perspective would be my prefered source for all my cars in the future.
I have no connection or affiliation with the Protech company, but living so far away from european vintage suppliers and having also recently bought two other sets of shocks from the historically more famous european vendors, I would recommend Protech without hesitation.

Not Protec but I have had the same experience with suppliers of hoses/oil coolers etc, silence to emails, to Faxes even (remember those?)and most times phone calls to. Just never get back and you have to chase chase chase.
Eventually found 2 hungry new businesses just getting started, what a difference.
USA suppliers of the same ?
Bang-on, rapid response and understand what you want.
Seems everyone in the UK is too busy.
Best they employ someone from the dole ques then!

phoned again...and had more luck.
but as i said: my mail ended somewhere....as spam.
phone-conversation was very nice but they need further info of the original shocks (length etc...)
what kind of shocks are fitted to your ´65 G4? also spitfire ones? i mean, also spitfire dimensions (open length)?

We have Protech shocks on the Dare G4LWB and they are superb - DARE fitted GAZ units, which leaked from day 1 and were about as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot - they were probably
cheap though....
Spadge at Ginetta Heritsage supplied and fitted the Orotech units - Top Man!
