Looks like you can now order a genuine continuation G16 chassis/body from DARE.
Have to say i love how it looks, just needs a G12 style hard top (which i know they can do..)

Here is a question for those who get so agitated about G12 and G4 cars built elsewhere not being 'legal'.

If the Japanese bought the rights to the G4 and the G12, and (according to the bar-room lawyers)anyone other than Dare is in breach of that copyright, are Dare not putting themselves in a similar position by building a car that Ginetta Cars Ltd still hold the rights to? Just a thought....

PS - I gather Ginetta Heritage can also build 'continuation' G16 cars, with full factory backing.

Are you sure Ginetta Ltd hold the rights to this car?
I think at one stage the rights to the G16 were owned by a Japanese enthusiast and were not retained by Ginetta- i may be wrong.

Not sure at all - it was just a thought I had - as I have said before, it is the cars that are important and not who builds them as far as I am concerned.

Clearly there is a market for these things though - there are 'continuation' Chevron B16s out there, and Lola have laid down a limited run of T70 GT cars. Somebody somewhere has the money, obviously...

The Ginetta G 16 was sold from Ginetta Cars Ltd. some years ago by M Phaff to a Japanese guy a good friend to Dare .
Ginetta Cars do not hold the rights to this model and have no rights to condone full factory backing to this: G4 or G12
Ginetta Heritage are playing with words to create credibility for cars they make and have no right to issue chassis number for these cars.

Putting the legal issues aside, surely it makes sense that the Walkletts are the best people to build the continuation cars. The chevron continuation cars are still made by the engineers that were around in '69.

Does anyone really care, so long as the cars are now available?

There are several influential people in msport who promote the idea of continuation cars (you only need to go the Goodwood Revival!) because it's in their interests - there is also a good number against them.

The trouble is, like replicas, some will get suckered in to thinking they have bought the 'real m'coy'.

Me? I don't have a problem with it PROVIDED the item in question is clearly shown to be a continuation car (replica, copy, 2009 example, whatever you like).

So, for example, you have a certain car of which there were only x examples ever built, and then suddenly out of the blue another appears, and it's mint (cos it's just been built!) purporting to be the real thing, that's NOT on!

Copy or not - if I win the lottery, I am buying one of these.... http://www.chaparralcars.com/2e.php

And probably a G16 as well!
