Is this a Dare car or a Ginetta factory car?

Original Ginetta factory car - it's a period rolling chassis (#40 from the looks of it)... so FIA historic racing should be possible - so long as you get period drivechain.

Would the FIA really approve this car for historic racing?

Ginetta G12 - Chassis no. 40

According to Bob Walklett in his book "Ginetta, The inside story" 50 Ginetta G12s were produced.

Chassis number 12/40 was purchased from Ivor Walklett, designer of the G12 and a Director of Ginetta Cars Ltd. until the early 1980's. I have a letter from Ivor Walklett stating that this is an original unused chassis. As such, the chassis has no period history.

The car has been built up using a new body and is now ready for installation of engine and gearbox.

It has been built to the original specification and thus should be eligible for FIA HTP papers (classed as 1967 Ginetta G12), subject to fitting the correct engine and gearbox.

The rolling chassis is fitted with a new radiator and twin foam filled fuel tanks. New steering rack, springs and dampers and brake calipers, discs and master cylinders have also been used in the build.

Rare opportunity to aquire a potentially very quick, competitive and rare car.

Please contact me if you require any further details. Tel. 01283 500428.

Delivery possible - please call / email for cost.

On 02-Oct-08 at 13:34:48 BST, seller added the following information:
Further to enquiries I have received, I would like to confirm that the car is a rolling chassis only. It requires wiring, plumbing, engine, gearbox and associated ancillaries. Please email me for a full specification of items included on the rolling chassis. I also confirm that the chassis has no period history, but comes with the benefit of a 'letter' of provenence - please contact me for a copy. The car has no V5 registration document.

So what exactly does "As such, the chassis has no period history" mean? (e bay double talk?)

Exactly what it says!

No 'period' history.

It cannot have any period history because it states it is chassis no 40.

Bob didn't say they built 50 'in period (1960/70s)', he says they went on to build 'about 50' (he left in Nov 1989) in those final years before he retired Ginetta had been building numbers of G12s for Japan).

The last period G12 chassis No. is much lower. In fact, the 'last' period G12 was never assembled and to this day remains in the ownership of a good friend.

The word 'period' is pretty much open to anyone's interpretation - 60's or 70s or maybe 80's and 90's and even 2007 as well???(maybe that's pushing it a bit!)and that's completely typical of an e bay listing. Basically its got 'no history' because it's not the real thing.
