G20 with Roof?
Discussion
Me and the Mrs just watched a Motorsport UK program I had recorded because the Junior Ginettas are always a good watch.
Anyway we both agree that the G20 looks really nice and could be good fun to have one (someday...not actually got the cash) but can you get the version with a hard roof for the road.
The Ginetta site seems to imply that the only road going version is soft top/no top?
Like I say I'm not going to rush out and buy one tomorrow but just pondering....

Hi, Have a look at the Ginetta Owners Club Web site - there is a Club Member with a Road going version (built from a race car shell) it was also featured in (I think) 'Complete Kit Car' magazine. If I can find the copy I will let you know so you could get a back copy to determin whats involved :-)

Thanks for the info Molebert. No need to find the back copy. I was thinking it could be done from a race chassis if I really wanted to. But what I was really hopeing was to pick one up in a few years cheaper than a new one. We'll see how many conversions are available when I get around to buying a fun car again!
Hi Italo,
Thanks for the comments, I can't take the credit it for it though, Simon who i bought it from did the hardwork,
I'm about to continue where he left off and carryout some further evolution works to the suspension bodywork and interior. I will be keeping progress logged on locostbuilders.com and hopefully ginetta.org once my membership has been renewed.
James.

I would have been interested in buying this car when it was for sale in the classified section if it had a boot opening so that I could have used it for touring.
But I do like it
Yeah the lack of storage opening does take away from the idea. It's a real shame because it's a lovely shape. But I do like it

Did you start a blog or a thread, where I can follow and watch you progress with the modifications?......by bodywork do you mean restyling it ?.....I do have a few sketches laying around.....
Cheers mate
Italo
Hi Mate,
Progress has been a bit slow due to me lunching the engine big time on the way to the 50th celebrations!
I've got the new engine in, just about to get it mapped. It will then be going down to Richmond Racing for widetrack GT front suspension fitting and a gt front bonnet. The interior is being remodelled a bit with lots of alcantara.
Will get a blog up and running as soon as there is much to see.

Nice drawing Italo, only the problem with these Ginettas (I have a G27) is that they are very low and there's very little head room in them with a roof see height of roll cage at rear bulkhead in the photographs below
Many years ago before I built my G27 I sketched a full roof more along the lines of the Jensen Healey GT I never actually got round to making this for my G27 but I think something like it might work. I know some people will be horrified by this idea but you see I fly hang gliders and the idea was to carry my flying equipment and glider. (I used to carry my glider on the roof of my Lotus Excel) With some roof rails on this idea I thought this would make a really smart and more practical sports estate, a G27 GT if you like
Also, back at your sketch, the whole bonnet hinges forwards rotating at a point near the bottom of the radiator.

It's funny that we came to the same conclusion, this was my old very rough sketch, for my restyling of the G20 coupe, or G27 roadster turned into a coupe.]

My idea was something of a shooting break/Coupe concept......
