G20 Not Starting - Help
Discussion
My Ginetta Race car is not starting at the moment. It turns over and then starts for about 1 second and then stops.
Symptoms:
If throttle half pressed when starting it will stall straight away.
If starting without any throttle it idles for around 2 seconds and the stalls.
If starting without any throttle and before the 2 seconds when it stalls you put press the accelerator the car stalls straight away.
I have just had the backend repaired and so I am wondering whether they have affected the fuel pump in some way. When starting the car the fuel pump whirs up and then stops (presume when reached pressure). Before the repair on the rear end the car worked perfectly, but the fuel pump was slightly lower than the fuel tank and I am wondering whether if this has been raised this could affect it working.. though I would of thought the car wouldn't idle for 2 seconds before stopping.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Cheers,
RP

Not sure if it's related, but...
My G20 (and American spec Mazda powered), has done similar things. What I found is that the main block of fuses are the big yellow "box" style and hang upside down above the passenger foot well. The fuses can work themselves lose and shut down the engine. Simply pressing them back into position rectifies the situation.
I hope it's that's simple in your case.
Good luck!

Can you put an external 12v supply on the pump to keep it running as a test ? (disconnect the pump from the loom first) Most ECU's supply a pulse to the Fuel pump to pressurise the injection system before the engine turns over. It then waits until it gets a signal from the Engine sensors to say the engine is rotating before it repowers the pump constantly. So missing signal, the pump wont keep running and the engine dies.

Mark, are you saying it could be a sensor then?
Assume this G20 is running a Zetec?
Common problem I've found is cam or crank sensor failing.
Mate's Zetec had this where engine just died (no reason, been running perfectly prior) and wouldn't restart.
In fact, he's not sorted it yet. Cranks over no problem, fuel pumps kicks in but no firing.
I reckon it's the crank sensor but need to get a fault code reader on it.

Right, worked on this last night and this is going to make me look slightly stupid with the immense technical knowledge needed to fix it.
Turns out that the repair company completely drained the fuel tank (had around 10 litres when I gave it to them), thus there was no fuel in it. Having no fuel gauge didnt make this obvious, but at least a quick fix as I was getting worried that it might be a sensor deep down and dark somewhere.
Thank you guys for the advice though!
Right will now get my coat...
