Hello from Minnesota, U.S.A. all -

The break in period for my "new" G20 continues. As some may have read, I needed to replace the differential due to a botched LSD installation by the previous owner. The new/used one seems to be working perfectly, however - now that I'm able to actually use the car I notice that the diff rocks up and down upon gear engagement or disengagement. I'm so new to this car... is this a designed in trait? Should I be worried? The shop that did the installation for me is one of the very best in town, and made no mention of it.

Long and the short of it - do all G20's exhibit this trait?

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

No, i'm afraid not.
Sopunds to me as though the diff bracket bolts are not tight. Due to the way the diff is mounted, if any of the bolts are loose the diff can pivot and move.
Easy job to tighten, you don't even need to jack it up.

Well... I'll give you THREE guesses as to what was missing on my car...

Forget it - believe it or not, the mounting bolt that goes through what LOOKS to be some sort of a flat locating arm and into the upper left portion of the diff was missing! THANKFULLY I've only put a couple hundred gentle miles on the car with the bolt missing. First call tomorrow is to the shop to express my dismay. That being said, they've never worked on a G20 before (I've been told there are only 25 in the whole U.S.A.), and probably mounted the replacement just as the "original" had been removed. This is what likely contributed to the previous diff's self destruction.

I can't tell you the difference it has made.

THANK YOU AGAIN for the heads up!
