Golden Ginettas / Club Ginetta Update
Discussion
Important message to everyone who has expressed an interest as a potential competitor in the proposed Golden Ginettas series for 2008
We have had a very busy and interesting time over the last few weeks working to get Golden Ginettas off the ground. The response we received was strong and enthusiastic and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contacted us and offered us their support. In spite of our late entry into the market for track time, by working with the BARC and Ginetta Cars Ltd we were able to agree a provisional calendar of seven events which would provide the variety of circuits and meetings we wanted.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the majority of enquiries we received - about 70% - were from owners of ex-Championship G20s and G27s. Aside from the fact that the earlier cars would be somewhat swamped on the grid with this kind of ratio, this also raised safety issues surrounding the mixing of classic cars in the same races as the more robust modern cars with their stronger chassis. In view of this, it has therefore been agreed that the seven track dates will be used for a new series to be called "Club Ginetta". The Club Ginetta series will be run by Ginettas Cars Ltd. rather than the Golden Ginettas team and will be for race prepared G20s or G27s conforming to previous Ginetta Cup championship regulations.
Therefore if you own a G20 or G27 and wish to take part in Club Ginetta, please contact Ginetta Cars Ltd directly. The new series will be featured in a dedicated ad in Autosport this coming week.
We at Golden Ginettas wish Ginetta Cars Ltd every success with this series.
So where does this leave the classic cars - a phrase which we are using to describe any Ginetta badged racing car which is not a current Ginetta Cars Ltd factory production car or a Ginetta G27 - for this season? Both the BARC and Ginetta Cars Ltd have expressed their support for Golden Ginettas to go ahead with a series for classic, or "Golden", models and we are now looking for appropriate dates to kick the first season off. Clearly, this will be even more tricky than the first time round now that the dates we had will be used by the Club Ginetta series, but we intend running a smaller number of races commencing sometime in the middle of 2008 and - provided these are a success and well supported - running a full calendar in 2009.
With a smaller pool of cars for us now to target - with the "loss" of G20s and G27s - we need to be especially confident that we will be able to get sufficient cars onto a classic grid. If we cannot attract enough entries, we will not be allowed to continue next year. Therefore, if you have a classic car suitable for the "all new" Golden Ginettas, please get in touch with us and let us know your level of interest. We understand that you cannot commit to enter actual races at this stage without dates, but an indication that you would like to enter if you are able to would greatly help our cause.
We look forward to hearing from you all and hope that 2008 will be a ground breaking year for all Ginetta racers from every era.
Kind regards,
Michael Pearson

Jack, the other models certainly are not being forgotten about... In fact, the final details of Ginetta Heritage race series are being penned which will be an avenue for models other than G20s / G27s / G50s to race in! More info. will be posted on GinettaCars.com next week :-) But the first race is set for Mallory Park on September 7th - so those who do have 'Classic' Ginettas - get the polishing cloth out!
Hi Jay
Sounds good but what about original G27 the one made in the 1980s with the jag dif. by the Walklett's , its not part of Ginetta race series so I assume those should be eligible for the Golden Ginetta race ?
Ok I am happy to wait until next week to see the race regulation but if you know are Dare G4 and G12 eligible? There are several potential drivers patiently wainting to see if they can come and play and to be part of the 50th celebration.
