A friend is actively looking for a lwb G4 at the moment. We have been to see the one at Paul Stephens today (very nice car) but would like to look at another (if there is any). Two questions, does anybody know where there is any and how many lwb G4's are there in the UK roughly? Many thanks.

I actually have no idea. Unusually for me, only seen it in pics.

Better to contact DARE.

Personally, if you are just worried about fitting a 'normal' G4, I'm 6ft 1 (albeit slim),
so provided you're not a daily visitor to a Macburger's
I'd get 'any' Dare G4 -

I found it comfortable and enough room even when driving a long distance.

Cheers guys, he was a snug fit in the LWB thats for certain, so SWB could be problematic. Will fish around a bit, cheers. Does anyone know much about G15's?????

G15's ??!! Super cool !! thumbup

If I had the space and found a good one I would have one without question. Only trouble nowadays is spares and finding a decent engine builder........

I have found what I think is a very good one, want to do a classic (touring) rallycar out of it. I know the engines are rare now, and that could be problematic. Deciding between that and a Plus2 elan at the mo. Expect a few questions...

You don't have to stick with the original engine.... A bike engine will fit in their nicely...

Imp Engines for G15 are no trouble, from 875 to 1040cc or higher, anything Imp is well served today via several Imp specialists and The Imp Club (in fact you will find many G15 owners prefer or also join this club than the Ginetta club because of monthly mag and 4 times as many members and masses of expertise with anything Imp, plus they have a top class website that puts many larger clubs to shame - more (MANY more!) Ginetta owners (G15 mainly) post on there than the GOC - GOC website is good, but useage is well, very poor to say the least.

Many parts for 15s are available so it's not that difficult - and if it is the Imp Club as a spares service and stock many parts plus an advisory service.

One point, beware, if you re-engine a 15 from the norm - a few have done this - make sure you can return it to original or it's value will halve in seconds.

G15 owner here, havent driven it yet, (about to do so this weekend!!!) mine has lots of mods for competition (works wheel arches, fully adjustable leda suspension, roll cage etc etc) 875 at the mo but planning on a 1040 fuel injected lump in the near future.

Trust me - it is nothing to do with girth, but more about leg-length. If you have long legs, you will get in a standard G4 OK but not get out again - other than head first....

I don't know the details, but I gather from Spadge that most of the LWB cars were soft-tops. Very few coupes like mine.

This is interesting - the only 'Dare G4' I have driven is the mag test car and I had absolutely no trouble - I think Dave can vouch I have long legs! (original G4s, yes, found them absolutely impossible - and for what it matters, for info, G15s unbeatable for seating position imo; G21 - went to buy one and found my knees jammed against s/wheel); G32 no problem; G11 no problem (except with roll over bar which restricts recline angle).

I thought the long cockpit (so called) G4 was wider in the well as well as longer, obviously not according to Dave.

Hope the mag test G4 was not 'different' (ie longer than norm) knowing how one Ginetta is not always as stated etc...
hmmm got me worried now. Better sit in few I suppose (or try to!).

I'm just 6' tall but have long legs (I'm built a bit like a gorilla, but (hopefully) without the girth) - I could physically get into a SWB (classic/normal?) G4 coupe, but had no chance of driving it. I then stuggled out and slotted into a LWB-WB G4 roadster - the first one they made in the blue with cream interior - no problems at all.
I had no problems with the size of the seats, just the length of the leg in the SWB.

Though I do find the transverse chassis tube just in the wrong place for the heels of my feet on the LWB - I just keep catching the backs of my heels on it when comeing off a peddle.
It isn't needed on the SWB so isn't there, but as I'm too big for a SWB - tough!

Paul Stephens told me a few years ago that he wasn't going to do any SWB G4s unless specifically asked for - they just wouldn't be on the options list, they would all be LWB-WB G4s.

Ive had two SWB G4s and im just short of 6 foot tall.
with my current G4 I got DARE to move the pedals further away and this has helped slightly. I have no trouble driving it, but i feel it would be more comfortable if my legs could be less bent when using the pedals..
not sure if the pedals could be moved even further away without serious modification to bulkhead??
I also find the standard seats too upright and no lumbar support espec if you're tall..
